"Any programme that seeks by medical, psychological and/or spiritual means to 'convert' people from a homosexual or transgender orientation or identification towards a heterosexual one ... (causes) harm and suffering."
Pardon? Can any Catholic recognise in that statement - from NZ's bishops on behalf of the Catholic Church in 'Aotearoa NZ' (a place which exists only in the dreams of subversives), - the mind of the One, True, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church?
An irate reader says this statement is further and unnecessary proof of the bishops' own homosexuality, collective and individual. What it certainly isn't, is proof of orthodoxy or faithfulness to Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church.
The bishops' submission on the Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Bill, presented five days ago, "generally supports the aims of the bill as being in line with the Catholic Social Teaching principles of human dignity and common goodmakes one wonder whose, or what, Church we belong to now. Must be the New World Church.
Family First's Bob McCoskrie was unequivocally opposed to the 'Conversion Therapy Bill'.
"Banning ‘conversion therapy’ has expanded to mean stopping someone who experiences unwanted same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria from getting counselling or support of any sort that they may themselves desire.
This ‘ban’ could turn parents into criminals, religious leaders & counsellors into ‘human rights abusers’, and make it impossible for faith-based schools to teach that you are born male or female.
The government wants to criminalise the discussion and practice of alternatives to hormones, surgery and confusion. Under the proposed law, parents – yes, parents – could be criminalised and liable to up to five years imprisonment simply for affirming that their sons are boys and their daughters are girls! A ban could criminalise parents who wish to protect their child from the physical, emotional and psychological harm caused by gender dysphoria.

Bishop Stephen Lowe, Hamilton Diocese, who is also secretary and vice-president of the NZCBC, told the committee that “conversion therapy” did not respect a young person’s sacred journey from childhood to adulthood
... whatever that may mean ...
and that was why the Catholic Church supported the legislation.

"Any harmful, coercive or abusive practice under any name," say the bishops, "is abhorrent to the Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” That, dear bishops, is a red herring. How can counselling people who wish to conform to their God-given sexual identity be 'harmful, coercive or abusive'? Are your Excellencies suggesting that Catholic parents exercising their obligation to develop their children's God-given potential are 'harmful, coercive or abusive'?
It sounds horribly as if the bishops see such counselling as harmful because it helps people reject the vice that entices them to sin and to eternal damnation. It sounds as if it's the bishops themselves who are harmful and abusive.
But hey, the bishops duck for cover. They “would not wish to see parents and advisers to young people restricted in giving advice consistent with both moral theology and Catholic Social Teaching out of fear of being seen to be breaking the law.”
Ah, er, the bishops themselves have just given advice which is inconsistent with moral theology.
A Dictionary of Moral Theology, compiled under the direction of H E Cardinal Roberti, describes homosexuality as "a vice, an acquired deviation of tendencies, and not a disease.
"Whatever the physician's personal views in this matter, he must not regard homosexuality or any other sexua aberration as incurable, but as curable by remedies and measures that are intrinsically licit." Elsewhere the Dictionary defines homosexuality as a pathological evil.
Perhaps the bishops mean to give a good example to parents and advisers to young people of fearlessness of being seen to be breaking the law, because that is precisely what they are doing.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the Cardinal McCarrick (now Mr McCarrick) whistleblower, has described homosexuality as the "principal cause of so many sexual abuses."
“For Bergoglio (the Antipope, aka Pope Francis) and his entourage"
... in which we may include the NZ Conference of Catholic Bishops ...
"sodomy is not a sin that cries out for vengeance in the presence of God, as the Catechism teaches. Bergoglio’s words on this topic — and even more the actions and words of those who surround him
... even those a world away physically speaking but surrounding him philosophically speaking, like the NZCBC ...
— unfortunately confirm that an operation of legitimization of homosexuality is currently underway.”
“Let’s not forget that the legitimization of homosexuality is part of the agenda of the New World Order — to which the Bergoglian church
... which includes the Church in New Zealand ...
adheres openly and unconditionally," Viganò reportedly said in the interview.
“Not only for its destabilizing value in the social body, but also because sodomy is the principal instrument with which the Enemy intends to destroy the Catholic priesthood, corrupting the souls of the Ministers of God.”

One is tempted to believe, in the modern and modernistic New Zealand Church, that behind every good bishop is a good woman. Bishop Stephen Lowe, for example, was accompanied in the Zoom meeting with Parliament's Justice Committee by National Centre for Religious Studies resource developer and lecturer Lyn Smith.
Lyn is on the parish council and coordinates the Sacramental and RCIA programmes. She is also the National Moderator for Religious Studies for NZQA, NCEA levels 1-3.
Lyn is married to Bruce. In her spare time she loves to play winter and summer hockey, drive her Landrover, read Gothic horror novels, write poetry, listen to heavy rock, get tattoos and cuddle her 5 cats and 2 rabbits. http://www.tci.ac.nz/staffdir/24-staffprofiles/133-lynsmith

ReplyDeleteA retired doctor friend told me the view amongst the doctors when he worked in a major NZ city hospital was that about half the Catholic priests in town were active homosexuals.
I've spent the day wandering through the submission of the Catholic bishops on the Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Bill. It references the Catholic schools guiding documents:
- Framing Document –Human Sexuality Education: A guide for Catholic communities in Aotearoa New Zealand (2019) https://tinyurl.com/yt5xzr55
- Gender Complexity in Schools: Some guidance for Principals, BOTs, Staff, Students and Whānau of Catholic Primary and Secondary schools in Aotearoa New Zealand (2018) https://tinyurl.com/4ctx8vx6
These documents collectively read like the words of gay activists, softened with a confused smattering of Catholic ideology, much of it very recent from Pope Francis. The Catholic school documents seem to accept and normalise homosexuality.
The incredible danger to our basic family freedoms from the new legislation is played down by the bishops to the point of almost disappearing.
The Church documents do not seem to mention the perverse sexual antics of gays "In a 6-month long study of daily sexual diaries, gays averaged 110 sex partners and 68 rectal encounters a year." Or the research in the US that has shown from a median life expectancy for all males of 75 years, with gays it drops to 39 years for death from AIDS and 42 years for death from other than AIDS.
On homosexuality our Church seems to be living in a fantasy world. My doctor friend maybe has helped me to understand what drives that fantasy.
