"I sought the guidance of the Holy See," said Bishop Gielen. Good grief. After the firing last week of the white martyr Bishop Joseph Strickland from his episcopate of Tyler, Texas, why would a faithful bishop seek the guidance of the Holy See even for the way to the bathroom?
But +Michael Gielen, the new Bishop of Christchurch, has called in the Vatican to deal with the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer, a traditional Redemptorist order which offers the Latin Mass, and which is accused once again by a group of dissidents of sundry misdeeds, chief among them exorcisms, a subject which never fails to galvanise the MSM into sordid little excursions of gossip and innuendo.
Readers of this blog may recall a post in July on a highly theatrical piece by one Paddy Gower, a Tv personality who regularly "Has Issues" which he foists on unwary viewers (https://juliadufresne.blogspot.com/2023/07/paddy-gowers-issues-with-monks-beat-up.html).
Nothing could be more calculated to raise the blood pressure of a faithful Catholic than the sight and sound of Gower's collaborators, Tv3's newsreaders, salivating over the announcement of a Vatican visitation to the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer, Christchurch, for alleged psychological abuse and exorcisms.
The Catholic world knows the result of the visitation to the Diocese of Tyler, Texas which discovered the dirt the pope's police were sent to find and which could probably be found in any diocese anywhere in the world. We can predict the result of the Christchurch visitation by some retired Australian bishop and it's hard to escape the conclusion that Bishop Gielen - who looks a nice man, the sort who would prefer to leave the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer in peace - resorted to the Holy See to let him off the hook of controversy.
Nice bishops abound in New Zealand. They don't get to be bishops by upsetting laity who hold grudges and nag until those grudges are recognised and the grudgees get their comeuppance. Especially not when the media come to their aid as they do, with enthusiasm, as the epitome of the world if not also the flesh and the devil.
The woke Cathnews for example, is gloating over the story, published by Newshub and featuring the usual suspects: reporter Michael Morrah of Paddy Gower Has Issues infamy, Emeritus Professor of History Peter Lineham and Auckland University senior lecturer in theological and religious studies, Nick Thompson (the two latter terribly earnest of manner and sibilant of speech). None of them, to our best knowledge, is a Catholic, but that's the way it is, these post-Vat 2, dumbed-down Novus Ordo days, when academics have, by and large, deserted the Catholic Church.

It doesn't bode well for the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer. If the Holy See (to give it the official name) is in Strickland mode we can expect some sort of cancellation/restriction which is what Pope Francis (to give him his official name) is best at.
Does Francis see, in +Gielen's call on his services, a convenient hook on which to hang cancellation of the Latin Mass in Christchurch Diocese, aka the Land of Mordor (Wellington) - or even in every diocese? In which case every diocese must react as no doubt the holy Sons would, living as they do by the Beatitudes, chief among them "Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Mt 5:10).
The chap who stirred up this hornets' nest is a fireman called Greg Price. Of any ulterior motives which may be at play it's best to say nothing, as although coming from reputable sources they could literally be called hearsay; but Greg who looks pleased with himself says complaints to former church leaders (sic) have been ignored and the Sons should be disbanded.
"The Vatican's treated this seriously and has grabbed one of its most senior retired bishops from Australasia and called him in. This is very significant," (Lineham).
"It indicates the "emergency button" has been activated by the highest echelons of the Catholic Church," (Thompson).
The Sons, also known as the Transalpine Redemptorists, is run by Fathers Michael and Anthony Mary.
But an investigation on Newshub's Paddy Gower Has Issues revealed concerns about their teachings and manipulative behaviour, claims they interfered in family life, and that multiple unauthorised exorcisms, including on young people, were carried out. https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2023/11/vatican-orders-investigation-into-christchurch-catholic-group-over-allegations-of-abuse-unauthorised-exorcisms.html

Morrah interviews 'David' in St Mary's and St Francis de Sales, before the Blessed Sacrament |
'David' says the exorcisms he experienced were '"full of puffery and theatre". The priest who performed them (number unspecified) has - conveniently for Morrah - "left the order". Fr Michael Mary has said that "the priest was never a member of our community. If he did illegal exorcisms I have no knowledge of it."
Outrageously, Morrah chatted to David in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, in the church of St Mary's and St Francis de Sales (pictured). An official complaint of this invasion of sacred space is pending.
Eva', who may have declined that doubtful honour, is interviewed in back-to-the-camera, on-a-park-bench, voice-disguised mode (all that was missing was the hat and its wearer who appeared in Paddy Gower Has Issues, who probably wisely declined a second interview), says, "The order is above the law. They're a law unto themselves. They don't respect the bishop or anyone else. That sense of privilege must be removed."
No evidence is offered for these extravagant claims. Worse still, her daughter was visited by the order at home and encouraged to become a nun!!! And they have little boys wearing "monk's clothes" (actually altar boy vestments)!!! But that wasn't vocational guidance, it was "a recruitment attempt ... People put themselves in their hands. They trust them. They're guided. And therein lies the danger. Therein lies the cultlike behaviour."
Sounds like 'Eva' has been watching the Gloriavale investigation on the telly. Since time immemorial, 'good Catholic' parents have tried to stop their offspring entering the priesthood or the religious life.

But wait, there's more: 'Eva' "stumbled across an exorcism, she says. Disappointingly, she wasn't able to see it but, "there were loud voices and quite a bit of aggression." One may conclude that when dealing with the devil, exorcists should mind their manners and talk nicely.
Satan is hard at work in Christchurch and his ultimate target as always - as it was with Bishop Strickland - is the Blessed Sacrament and the Mass. Not the 'New Mass' invented after Vatican II, which is no threat to Satan, but the real Mass, the Mass of Ages which Fr Faber called 'the most beautiful thing this side of heaven' which is celebrated in Christchurch by the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer and - surprise, surprise! at the church of St Mary's and St Francis de Sales where Morrah and 'David' had their little chat on camera.
(Obviously Morrah and 'David' don't know that the Blessed Virgin Mary informed little (now St) Jacinta Marto that talking in the Presence of the Blessed Sacrament is deeply offensive to her Son. They haven't got that on their own - their ignorance is shared by Novus Ordo Catholics who cheerfully chat in church all around New Zealand.)
But it's in Rome, which as Our Lady prophesied at La Salette, has lost the faith, that Satan's mischief originates. Pope Francis and his degenerate hierarchy, who allow evil clergy like Fr Marko 'Rapenik' Rupnik and numberless sodomitical bishops and priests to roam free while losing souls left, right and centre, are determined to stamp out the traditional Latin Mass precisely because it generates faith, it generates children, it generates holy priests who venerate the Most Holy Eucharist as the Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
Latin Massgoers believe this doctrine as the source and summit of our Catholic Faith, whereas uncatechised, apostate Novus Ordo Catholics mostly do not.
Oh, how can one say such a thing? By entering their churches, which between Sundays are almost always empty. If Catholics believed in the Real Presence they would be in church as often as possible, praying for their needs, humbly confessing their sins and repairing to Our Lord for the insults and neglect He suffers 24/7 in New Zealand, where often He is literally locked up, kept Prisoner by His Mystical Bride or actually her functionaries, who would claim vandalism as their reason and a roster of parishioners to visit the church to prevent vandalism as too much like hard work.
Your prayers are requested for Fr Anthony Mary, who has been hospitalised with clots on the lung. Most priests in New Zealand were forced by the diktat of Francis to comply with the abortion-tainted j*b, and conjecture might point to v*ccine injury, of which blood clots are a common feature.
But the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer will accept Fr Anthony Mary's illness as an expression of God's permissive will and join his suffering with the suffering of their order's Namesake. Under the Francis pontificate the Church is undergoing her Passion and Crucifixion, as she must and as Our Lady and so many saints have prophesied, to be conformed to her Mystical Spouse.
Wow. I think you knocked this out of the ballpark!
ReplyDeleteAnd yet despite his concerns, "David" sought out four exorcisms all together.
ReplyDeleteIt's an evil idolatrous practice & the whole system is Antichrist.
ReplyDeleteWe've got news for you and it's all bad ...
DeleteSad to say I have to agree! Harlot church with false teaching!
ReplyDeleteThe Church may be in the hands of liberals but She is one, holy, catholic and apostolic and the gates of hell shall never prevail against her.
DeleteDoes the sinful behaviour of one or a number of men cancel the Word of Jesus and the extraordinary influence of Love and the spiritual enrichment of countless millions over millennia by the Christian faith? I think not. Instead please pray for forgiveness for one's own lack of understanding of how forgiveness saves both the evil doer and importantly his accuser.
ReplyDeleteMuch is unclear. I’d like to know more about these “exorcisms”. Were they full on exorcisms and if so were they conducted under the authority of the bishop?
ReplyDeleteMy July posting on this issue may help explain:https://juliadufresne.blogspot.com/.../paddy-gowers..
DeleteDo some actually see the allegations of exorcism something to be “accused of”? It is a great spiritual work of mercy, one consistently documented in Holy Scripture which Our Lord performed routinely. Would the Holy See actually object to that? If so, we are in more serious trouble than I thought, and that’s saying something!
ReplyDeleteI think it comes down to the fact that a lot of people - including some of those who attend the TLM perhaps just because they like the beauty of the Mass, have no clue that exorcisms are being requested more and more frequently, nor any clue about the fact that, for example, a minor exorcism is performed during the sacrament of baptism asking for the child to be set free of original sin. It's no wonder more are seeking exorcism these days because many have not been baptised at all and so are walking around still under the bonds of original sin. Certainly those people who are complaining about the FSSR don't appear to have many clues about the Faith at all. Certainly one wonders about those who agreed to be interviewed before the Blessed Sacrament and some of the statements they have made. It seems to me this is a set up against the FSSR? People who have attended the oratory just to make as much trouble for the FSSR as they can.
DeleteWhen ever I am in Christchurch this is the mass I attend. It’s a shame the PN Diocese has no Latin mass and with a new bishop I pray to see the return especially after the spectacle I witnessed this morning with drums, what sounded like tounges and preaching coming from the ‘band’. I hope this is not the way the mass is heading. I’ve never been so disappointed and upset attending such an irreverent mass
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately your new Bishop supported Greg Price and these accusers. He was told by the late Bishop Meeking the accusations that have been thrown at these good priests were false but did nothing to stop them. He is complicit with accusers.
DeleteAnd then along came Winston.
ReplyDeleteSo for the next three years the game of colonist bashing by a few radical, so called Maori no hoppers will at least be judged in perspective with a degree of fearless common sense a la Winston.
Does he redeem the kiddie fiddlers?
ReplyDeleteThe priest absolves (if there is repentance for the sin). Christ redeems.
DeleteAlthough it's fairly common knowledge, perhaps you are not aware that the incidence of sex abuse is lower in the Catholic Church than in Protestant denominations and far lower than in the professions, including teaching and law. Like so many misled by the MSM you seem to think "priest:pedophile, priest:pedophile." The MSM - and, it has to be said, going by frequent comments on FB, social media also - go after Catholic priests, the MSM because they know pedophilia sells their rubbish publications; on social media it's just ignorant, Protestant anti-Catholic prejudice.
at the end of the day, no priest or monk should be doing exorcisms without the bishops permission. They don’t have this authority.
ReplyDeleteI think Bishop Geilen is correct seeking advice about what to do about them.
Fr Anthony Mary said there were no exorcisms done without the permission of the bishop. According to the complainers, Archbishop Paul Martin dismissed their complaints as unfounded. How truthful are the complainers? Time will tell but any group that goes to Paddy Gower and are interviewed in front of the Blessed Sacrament I have serious doubts about.
