THUG GETS NAME SUPPRESSION BUT NOT +DEW

Catholic Bishops and priests of New Zealand, please, "spare thy people!" Spare them an eternity in hell - with yourselves for company (only on a much lower, more dreadful level).

Catholics are reeling from the unjust disclosure of a police investigation into their former Metropolitan, Cardinal Emeritus John Dew, for alleged serious criminal sexual misconduct. 46 years ago. Unjust, because a couple of days ago a thug who punched a grandmother in the face had his name suppressed. Permanently. But a prince of the Church is fair game.

New Zealand's Novus Ordo Catholics are punch-drunk. Or to put it in scriptural terms they are "infirm and weak" (1 Cor 11, 30) and in no state to withstand this latest assault on their faith in the Church and in Christ Jesus. For years now Catholics have been receiving Communion sacrilegiously, simply because they don't know Church teaching and canon law. It's the God-given mission of bishops and priests to instruct the faithful that if they die in this or any other mortal sin they will be condemned to hell, and if they neglect their duty they will be held responsible by Almighty God for their flocks' eternal misery.

10 months, the police have spent investigating the complaint - made the day after +Dew's resignation at age 75 from the archbishopric and which to anyone who knows +Dew personally is absurd. One has to ask whether there are factions working to remove the moderate +Dew from the conclave which will elect a successor to Jorge Bergoglio.

As a shrewd reader of this blog comments, "There's the bad faction, the worse faction, the extremely bad faction and after that it just gets worse." For the duration of this hell-bent pontificate most of the cardinals have been a write-off. But thank God, there are good factions too.

Dew did not know any details of the allegation until August 3, when he received a text message from a TV3 reporter.

... TV3 would give Dew until 10:00 am August 7 to respond because they were airing a programme that evening.

Through his lawyer, Dew asked the reporter to provide details of what he was said to have done.

“For the first time then, I learned of the shocking behaviour I, and others, were said to have been involved in” Dew says.

After receiving advice, on the grounds that the TV3 broadcast was false and grossly defamatory, Dew authorised his lawyer to stop the broadcast of the false allegation through the High Court.

The Court determined that Dew’s only remedy was to sue for defamation.

NZ Police say Cardinal Dew has no case to answer in sex abuse allegation (cathnews.co.nz)

One more reason to rejoice at the demise of Tv3 who pilloried the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer in Christchurch - and at Paddy Gower now having unemployment issues.

our generation's leader - like every generation's - should be the pope

But - ridiculously - it's not good enough for the police to decide there is no case for Cardinal Dew to answer; the Church must now increase the burden of the cross placed on +Dew's shoulders. the chief weight of it being his proscription from celebrating Mass in public.

The process, “Vos estis lux mundi’ is a Vatican process.

It gives the Metropolitan archbishop a significant role in overseeing a Church investigation when an allegation of sexual abuse is made against a bishop, priest or deacon.

Upon completion, the report is sent to the Holy See.

And what will the Holy See do with this report? Will that depend on certain factions in the cardinalate?

Until his retirement, Dew was the Metropolitan Archbishop in New Zealand. In this role he oversaw the Vos estis process.

As the new Metropolitan archbishop in New Zealand, (Paul) Martin is now responsible for overseeing the Vos estis process into his predecessor.

During the Church investigation, Dew remains suspended from ministry.

So because of mankind's obsession with sexual sin, the Church herself forbids a good priest to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the four purposes - which no N O Massgoing Catholic is likely ever to have heard of from his priest - of Adoration, Thanksgiving, Atonement and Petition  https://catholicgentleman.com/2014/10/four-ends-mass/

Anyway, we were talking about NZ's Catholics not knowing which way is up, and why their bishops and priests have a duty to catechise, to teach them the basics of their faith.

Think about the Novus Ordo Catholic who has eats his boiled egg half an hour before Holy Mass on a Sunday morning. When did he last get reminded by his parish priest in a homily of the one-hour fast before Holy Communion? https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/fasting-before-mass-4584OmmDB/

Even the fast of one hour, introduced by Paul VI in 1964, is an insult to Our Blessed Lord in the Eucharist. Think of the stomach's contents one hour after eating. Imagine Our Lord descending into that mess. But it's blindingly obvious from the way they behave in His Presence that most Catholics don't believe it is Our Lord Whom they receive in Holy Communion. So many bishops and priests fail to teach their congregations that at Mass  they are present at a unbloody re-enactment of Our Saviour's death on Calvary; so people turn up dressed for the movies or the beach or a rugby match and act as if they're at a concert.

It's so hard for anyone to believe in the Real Presence - the source and centre of the Catholic faith -

  • when Our Lord is received casually in the hand, standing, and dropped in fragments on the floor to be trodden on
  • when immediately after receiving Communion, at the most precious moment of their week they're expected to sing banal ditties, not out of a hymn book but off an ugly OHP screen which defaces the sanctuary
  • when Father strolls - or worse, an elderly woman in a trouser suit bustles - to the tabernacle some distance from the altar (sorry, table) or maybe in different space altogether, with the ciborium containing consecrated Hosts
  • when Father takes off within a few minutes while Our Lord is still present in his soul, to hobnob with Massgoers in the foyer as if it were more important to talk to them than to Christ.

One becomes so inured to these behaviours that the reverence, solemnity, ceremony and piety accorded Our Eucharistic Lord at a Traditional Latin Mass must seem alien to the Novus Ordo Catholic -

  • When the priest and altar servers genuflect every time they pass in front of the tabernacle
  • when even members of the choir - women in chapel veils and men in collar and tie - return from receiving Holy Communion with hands clasped in prayer
  • where the vestments are beautiful, becoming, and ornate
  • where every word and every action of priest and server is prescribed, with nothing omitted and no ad libbing
  • where many candles burn and (outside Lent) fresh flowers adorn the altar
  • where altar boys and Father alike kneel in private prayer and thanksgiving after the Ite, Missa Est (go, the Mass is ended).

a deacon spills the Precious Blood and nuns kneel to adore it

We may safely assume that Cardinal Emeritus John Dew knows the eternal value of his heavy burden, his suffering for Christ. It would only be fair for NZ Catholics to know that their own crosses too, if accepted - or even better, embraced - for love of our good God, are their passport to heaven.

Fathers, I beg you. The world is beyond human aid. The world needs your preaching and your actions in persona Christi. It needs your absolution. It needs you to offer the Holy Sacrifice. It needs your Rosaries. It needs your sufferings as much as anyone else’s.

Be bold and preach the Gospel, and do not blunt it. https://www.complicitclergy.com/2024/03/07/open-letter-to-all-catholic-priests/

  1. The Cardinal is entitled to the presumption of innocence. However, I know for a fact from an excellent clerical source that the Cardinal knew of the allegation BEFORE he retired. To say that he learned of it just after retirement is an absolute LIE.
