THE NAZIS AND COMMIES HAD HATE SPEECH LAWS TOO

Ardern, Little&Co, Death Dealers to the Nation, want to get their hands on a time-honoured tool of totalitarianism. They're after 'hate speech'.

And they'll get this legislation,  just as they'll succeed in outlawing alternatives to babykilling offered at hospital gates in their 'safe areas' bill.

New Zealand voted for these socialists. We've made our bed and we must lie on it. Complain while you can, because before long you could be jailed for it.

Criminalising words that offend people is a hallmark of Communism. The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia showed the way, silencing its critics by punishing 'hate speech' with up to 10 years in jail - which did nothing to prevent its terrible ethnic cleansings and genocide.

Yugoslavia's hate speech laws failed to prevent this

The Nazis outlawed free speech, too:

The bones of anti-Nazi German women

The Government wants to make hate speech a Crimes Act offence and ramp up the penalties for inciting hatred or discrimination.

Details of the long-awaited reforms of the country's hate speech laws were announced by Justice Minister Kris Faafoi this morning.

The six proposed changes include protecting groups from hate speech on the basis of sex, gender, marital status or political opinion, and making “incitement to discriminate” against the law. It will also boost the maximum sentence for the offence from three months to three years’ imprisonment.

"Extreme speech that incites hatred is very real, and is harmful for those who experience it, and for groups that are the target of it,” Faafoi said.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me." 'Extreme speech that incites hatred is no more real than the 'extreme speech' of Jesus Christ which incites love. 'Extreme speech that incites hatred' is not harmful to those who have been incited to love. It is not 'extreme speech' that is harmful for groups that are its target, but actions. It's actions which should be punished, not speech.

"The changes, which we are proposing, are not about restricting anyone's ability to engage in debate about issues.

“While saying nasty things to someone, or about someone, does not make for healthy and constructive relationship, it is not the type of speech that we are targeting.”

Bolstering hate speech laws was a recommendation of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Christchurch mosque terror attacks. The inquiry found there had only been one prosecution for “intent to incite hostility” under the existing law, and two civil claims.

And just how could hate speech legislation in New Zealand have prevented the act of one crazy guy from Australia?

However, the proposed changes to the law are likely to be fraught. There has been strong opposition to hate speech reforms from the political Right, which argues the Government was effectively criminalising insulting speech, and curbing freedom of expression.

ACT leader David Seymour said the Government’s proposed law changes would “put cancel culture on steroids”.

“This is a solution looking for a problem and will take away basic rights to free speech, it will shut down debate and make people too afraid to express valid opinions,” he said.

Faafoi said freedom of expression would remain protected under the changes, however, the right to free speech was not “absolute”.

“We know that people will have strong views both for and against these proposals,” he said.

Imam Gamal Fouda says freedom of speech should not mean tolerating hate speech. "This is not New Zealand. That is not us."

Would Imam Gamal Fouda like to include blasphemy in 'hate speech'? Does he want blasphemy laws like Egypt's, where blogger Kareem Amer spent four years in prison for insulting Islam (and President Hosni Mubarak), and Pakistan's, where thousands have been charged with blasphemy and religious minorities disproportionately targeted?

Mr Faafoi's suggestions have little to do with Islamaphobia. It's hard to escape the conclusion that the Christchurch mosque massacre has been hijacked by this Government as a vehicle for the hate speech legislation Ardern, Little&Co have wanted for quite some time. Like The Lockdown provided a Trojan Horse for the Abortion Legislation Act.

Under the proposal, the Government will change the Human Rights Act 1993 and the Crimes Act so that more groups receive protection from hateful speech. The current law protects groups from hateful incitement on the basis of colour, race, ethnic or national origins.

The new law would make it an offence to incite hatred on the basis of sex, marital status, religious belief, ethical belief (meaning the lack of a religious belief), colour, race, ethnic or national origins, disability, age, political opinion, employment status, family status, or sexual orientation.

"There could be some instances where people hold political opinions and any hate speech directed could be inciting hatred. That's not necessarily the ground that we're most concerned about. But again, we're asking for people’s opinions,” Faafoi said.

New Zealand has seen how this Government treats people's opinions it doesn't like. In Parliamentary subcommittees they have been ignored and/or treated with disdain.

The Crimes Act offence would make it a crime to “intentionally incite/stir up, maintain or normalise hatred” against any such group. It would be punishable by a maximum of three years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to $50,000.

"Normalising hatred means that, if I were to try and convince you to hate someone, and you didn't already hold that feeling, then I have changed your opinion."

The Minister of Justice is ridiculous. No one can change anyone else's opinion.

The ridiculous Mr Faafoi. Just getting it out there now ...

"You may already hold that opinion and I may want to reinforce that opinion with you, and that is normalising,” Faafoi said.

The civil liability for inciting hatred under the Human Rights Act will also be expanded to include “intentionally incite/stir up, maintain or normalise hatred” and “incite others to discriminate against”.

And then it would be expanded again.

A final proposal would clarify that “trans, gender diverse, and intersex people” were protected under the law, under protections for groups on the basis of “sex”.

The Ministry of Justice would receive public submissions on the law change, up until August 6.

Alongside this, the Government would also seek public submissions on what changes people could be made to make New Zealand more socially cohesive.

Hate speech laws were invented by antidemocratic states. Communist states. And then they routinely violated those self-same laws. The way they do it is by turning protection of human rights into coercive obligations to observe those rights.

They promote hate speech laws while ruthlessly suppressing national, religious and ethnic minorities. If the Catholic Church in New Zealand should undergo a transformation and find the courage to speak out against the massacre of the innocents ushered in by this Government, will that be interpreted as 'hate speech' against pregnant women? Or against doctors and nurses who perform abortions? Will we see the NZ Conference of Bishops banged up?

One wonders whether Western democracies like the United States would ever have rid themselves of slavery, for example, without freedom of expression. As the second president of the US, Thomas Jefferson put it:

"When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty."

Will see you all in jail!

Karen, many of my role models spent time in jail. Paul is just one of hem.

    I ask:
    Paul who, please?

    Brian Taylor:
The apostle Paul who lived almost 2,000 years ago. He spread the love of God throughout the Roman empire and was imprisoned because people turned from their pagan gods to Jesus Christ who loves them beyond measure. Some of the practices of the pagan religions included child sacrifice and temples prostitution.

    So true

It’s amazing how all these commie Labour Party left wing nut cases like Jacinda come up with all these supposedly intellectual arguments for placing limits on “Free Speech”.
…………Not one of them ever states just who should be the arbitrator of what qualifies as “Free Speech”, who is going regulate this the most subjective of all commodities, obviously the Cult Leader Jacinda believes she should be in charge of these decisions………and therein lies the GREAT danger.
………these cunning commies like Ardern call free speech…”Hate Speech”….to cover the FACT that they are attacking “Free Speech”…….don’t let these very dangerous commies fool you.

This is why we have these endless propaganda articles in our media about people being offended, or racially abused. There’s a constant generated stream of garbage flowing daily, to bolster up the idea NZ is such a terrible and dangerous place to live, we need laws to protect people from words.
It’s the logical next step after the way we’ve been saturated with the idea ethnic minorities or lgbt are constantly attacked in nz so we must ‘protect’ them from white supremicists and misogynists and bigots, homophobes and of course, baby boomers.
(All acceptable accusations apparently, and not hate speech).
Because let’s face it, the people who want these laws are primarily the ones who don’t like free speech (for others), they prefer mob rule and bullying of the literal kind, like destroying someone’s livelihood, family, employment, social status in their community. And sometimes even threatening others literal safety.
Now they’ve simply gone to the next predictable level, locking you up for daring to point out 2+2 does not equal 5.
The old saying, to learn who controls you, you only need to look at who you’re not allowed to criticise.

Act has a petition and I have signed it, thinking of the words of Martin Niemoller 'first they came,' though we differ on the value of life. Pray and trust.

And I thought Eric Blair was merely a novelist, not a prophet. Those who would dictate what may be said will soon dictate what must be thought. This Minister has his snout well and truly in the trough. I guess some pigs are more equal than others

    Sadly true

What happened when Charlie Hebdo published what some considered to be insulting material about a religion's prophet? Members of that religion murdered its staff. How many of the actors, directors and producers of "The Life of Brian", which could be considered a blasphemous satire, were killed by Christians? Maybe they were following their founder's teaching "Love your enemies". Which of these two faiths is most abused currently in New Zealand? And which makes the most fuss? Sorry -- no prizes.
