In his orthodoxy, clarity of thought and fearless defence of the faith, Pope St Pius X is the antithesis of the man who now illegally occupies the Chair of Peter.
A man for all seasons, in 1910 he foresaw the "dark workshops in which are elaborated these mischievous doctrines which ought not to seduce clear-thinking minds."
Speaking to the bishops of France, he commanded them to "preach fearlessly their duties to the powerful and to the lowly; it is your function to form the conscience of the people and of the public authorities."

ReplyDeleteIf Pius X had been pope 100 years later, I wonder what he would be saying and doing today. How would he respond to Vatican II? Would he be marginalized and forced to resign like Benedict XVI? Would his strong doc doctrinal faith place the Catholic Church at war with practically every modern western government? Would the Catholic Church be better off today or worse off?
