"You're stuck, just like we all are."

That, I heard today, was a priest's response to a parishioner who'd asked, in tears, for the Sacrament of Confession. She never asked that priest for Confession again.

A couple of days ago a parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes, Palmerston North was chased away from the church - where since the 'lockdown' she's gone daily to sit praying outside, to keep the Blessed Sacrament company - by Father Joe Grayland, parish priest at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit.

A lay person commented that the woman sitting outside OLOL was "giving a bad example".

So what's all that about? you ask. What's that got to do with Covid-19, which is all I can think of right now?

It's about loss of faith. Loss of faith especially in the source and summit of our faith, the Blessed Eucharist. It's about apostasy. It's about the Modernist heresies that have permeated the Church throughout the world: vide

"Catholics. Prayer, Belief and Diversity in a Secular Context: A New Zealand Perspective" by J P Grayland (Father Grayland, if you prefer - I do) which gets a plug in the current OLOL newsletter.

"This book offers a narrative of how belief structure and liturgical patterns have changed in parishes over the last fifty years."

You can say that again, Father. My point entirely.

"This book is a pastor's reflection on the impact of the contemporary world on what believers believe. ... J. P Grayland explores several of the key forces that are driving changes in beliefs."

In other words, apostasy. "Catholic beliefs" cannot change. The are truth, and truth does not change. "Jesus Christ, yesterday, and today; and the same for ever" (Heb 13;8)

Now at last we get around to Covid-19, and the NZ Bishops'  preposterous response - locking the faithful out of the Mass, our of their churches and even ordering them off their own parish property; ordering their most faithful, the elderly, to neglect their physical and mental health as well as the vigour of their spiritual life, and their most vulnerable, women at risk of harm from violent husbands, by staying indoors.

Pandemics have always been considered as a means of God's chastisement for the sins of mankind. By means of Covid-19, in New Zealand, the Father even employs His own shepherds to chastise His own flock. And when, in all the course of history, have the sins of mankind, especially in widespread apostasy and heresy in the Mystical Body of Christ, been so in-your-face, O Lord?

Back in 590 AD, the current Pope, Pelagius, was the first victim of a plague - the terrible lues inguinaria - which was widely accepted by Romans as punishment for their immorality. Pelagius was succeeded by Gregory (St Gregory the Great).

Now, there was a Pope. Immediately he gave a cracker sermon and called on all of Rome to follow him in penance, like the king of Ninive (coincidentally, in the epistle read today by Fr Michael Johnson SSPX in the TLM live-streamed from St Anthony's Whanganui).

“Look around you", proclaimed the Pope. "Behold God’s sword of wrath brandished over the entire population. Sudden death snatches us from the world, scarcely giving us a second of time. At this precise moment, oh – how many are taken up by evil — here all around us — unable even to think about penitence.”

Pope Gregory led a seven-fold procession of men, women and children all with heads covered in ashes, in funereal silence, bearing the image of the Virgin painted by St Luke to the bridge uniting the city to the Hadrian Mausoleum, when suddenly a celestial choir of angels were heard, singing the Regina Caeli.

An avenging angel - St Michael the Archangel, naturally - then appeared about the Mausoleum, bearing a sword which dripped blood, and plunged it home into its sheath. The plague was over.

The Third Secret of Fatima reminds us that, calling us to repentance, “an Angel (appeared) with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendor Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice ‘Penance, Penance, Penance!’”
Now, (I'm sounding like a TVOne reporter) we've heard ever so much about Covid-19 in Northern Italy. Professor Walter Ricciardi, an advisor to Italy’s minister of health, has admitted that only about 12 percent of deaths attributed to the virus were directly caused by the virus: only 12 per cent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88 per cent of patients who have died have at least one pre-morbidity – many had two or three.”

Now, the hardest-hit of the Italian towns in that region was Bergamo, where at least a thousand and probably many more have died during the outbreak.

It was the Diocese of Bergamo (among others) that had published on its website the following “Prayer to Pachamama,” whose hideous image was idolized during the proceedings of the absurd and scandalous Amazon Synod. Here is the prayer as it appeared on the Diocese of Bergamo’s website (translation by LifeSiteNews):

Pachamama of these places,
drink and eat as much as you like of these offerings,
so that this land may be fruitful.
Pachamama, good Mother
Be propitious! Be propitious!
Let the oxen walk well,
and let them not get tired.
Make the seed taste good,
that nothing bad happen to it,
that frost may not disrupt it,
that it produce good food.
We ask you:
give us everything.
Be propitious! Be propitious!
(Prayer to the Mother Earth of the Inca peoples)
Saint Peter’s Basilica ought to be reconsecrated to remedy an unprecedented sacrilege perpetrated with the approval of Pope Francis himself. Never has there been a spectacle like this in the basilica that stands at the very heart of the Church and is situated over the bones of Saint Peter.

This a massive failure of the virtue of prudence, as Jeff Mirus has so insightfully explained, resulting in irrational decisions by civil authorities: the lockdown of entire countries and bans on public gatherings, except to buy groceries, work in “essential businesses” (sounds familiar?) and use mass transit, thereby defeating the very purpose of this ludicrous attempt at nationwide quarantines.

These foolish decisions have caused immense damage to the temporal common good and unnecessary suffering on the natural level.
It is one thing to die from the effects of the coronavirus, quite another to die with the virus. Let’s say you are 87 years old, diabetic, with congestive heart failure and emphysema. You are infected with the coronavirus, get sick, and die. Did you die from it, or merely with it?

Dr. John Lee, a retired professor of pathology in the United Kingdom, made in Spectator USA. “There is a big difference,” he writes, “between Covid-19 causing death, and Covid-19 being found in someone who died of other causes. . . .
“First do no harm.” Dr. Lee is right to warn that the panicked response to this new virus has neglected that age-old medical advice.

“Unless,” he notes, “we tighten criteria for recording death due only to the virus (as opposed to it being present in those who died from other conditions), the official figures may show a lot more deaths apparently caused by the virus than [are] actually the case.

What then? How do we measure the health consequences of taking people’s lives, jobs, leisure and purpose away from them to protect them from an anticipated threat? Which causes the least harm?” what government stimuli stimulate is more government spending, along with inflation and ever increasing government bureaucracy.
As of March 26, we have seen more than 490,000 hospitalizations and 34,000 flu deaths. Add in the COVID-19 numbers and you get 565,000 hospitalizations and 35,264 deaths. In other words, seen in context, COVID-19 cases are a barely discernible blip.
With these differences: the patients suffering from the effects of COVID-19 tend to be much sicker, taking up hospital beds for longer, and they are arriving more quickly and in bigger clumps.

President Trump’s adviser on the “pandemic,” Deborah Birx, told the press, the only hard and reliable datum on the lethality of the virus is the number of people who have actually died from its effects, a numerator that grows smaller and smaller in relation to the rapidly rising denominator of total cases.

Hence Dr. Birx also reported that the death rate for COVID-19 in the United State will likely fall below 1% based on the number of people tested so far. Assuming quite reasonably that reported cases are only the tip of the iceberg of actual total cases in the world, it may well turn out that the death rate from this particular coronavirus is vanishingly small.

NY Governor, 'Catholic' Andrew Cuomo, recently said about moves to reduce deaths from Covid-19 that, “This is about saving lives. If everything we do saves just one life, I’ll be happy.” Cuomo it was who signed off on the deal that would leave full-term babies born alive after botched abortions and left to die, without even a nurse's arms to cradle them. Loss of faith? Apostasy? Heresy, even?

Coincidentally. Dr Birx continued to raise concerns about the New York metro area, which has become the epicenter of coronavirus cases and accounts for more than 50 percent of all new cases being reported.

Coincidentally, the bridge from which Alexander Tschugguel threw those pachamama idols into the Tiber is the very bridge from which Pope St Gregory the Great saw St Michael the Archangel sheathe his bloody sword as a sign that the plague was over.

And - coincidentally - Alexander Tschugguel has just been discharged from hospital having recovered from Covid-19. Deo gratias.
Our Lady of Akita warns the world, in line with the Fatima prophecy of the annihilation of various nations:

“As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before.
"Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead.

“The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary.”

The Rosary and the Consecration of Russia to Mary’s Immaculate Heart are the only remedies to avert death by the worst virus of all: the virus of apostasy from God and His Law, which has spread throughout the world and shows no signs of abating.

A PLEA TO NZ BISHOPS ON BEHALF OF CATHOLIC WOMEN AT RISK

To comment, please open your gmail account if possible, or use my email address, Facebook Messenger or Twitter. Scroll down for other comments.
"Dear Bishops
I am deeply disturbed by your latest letter to parishioners that emphasised the need to stay home and fails to mention the need to maintain good physical and mental health.

"One reason why you might actually rethink what you wrote, and issue a more accurate statement, is to help the many Catholic women who are in bad relationships suffering verbal, physical, sexual and psychological abuse.

"If you knew anything about what goes on behind closed doors for many women and children, you most certainly wouldn’t have condemned them to further punishment by writing what you did.

"It is common knowledge that Catholic/Christian abusers use the Bible, and will now use this letter to enforce women to stay home and not be able to go for fresh air.

"Only the most callous, evil, or unthinking men would dream to put something out in the public domain like this. The government has not stopped encouraging people to get out for exercise. This will help curb domestic violence and it will help women and children to cope with their experiences. "I cannot even begin to express how disgusted I am by the additional danger your letter creates for the vulnerable. I hope you move to remedy the situation immediately. "Too many Catholic marriages are characterised by violence, and a letter like this, during a four-week lockdown, has potential for exacerbating its most detrimental effects on families.

"God bless"

Sharon Crooks

TAKING CORONAVIRUS SERIOUSLY BUT HOW THE MEDIA AND THE PM MAKE ME LAUGH

To comment, please open your gmail account if possible or use my email address, facebook Messenger or Twitter. Scroll down for other comments.

"In every country, more people die from regular flu compared with those who die from the coronavirus."

Dr Loram Yass is an Israeli physician, politician and former Director General of the Health Ministry. He also worked as Associate Dean of the Tel Aviv University Medical School and during the 1980s presented the science-based television show Tatzpit.

Dr Yass is one of twelve medical experts whose science and commonsense contradict the "oh my gosh, oh my goodness" hysteria propagated in New Zealand by the MSM, especially in my experience by TvOne News.

One can only hope those reporters don't catch the dreaded virus: most of them manifest a serious underlying lung condition affecting, their ability, to, draw breath during, their, panic-stricken 'report' of one old woman's death in Greymouth.

Look, every death is saddening and to be regretted, and every soul should be prayed for - but not now, not by the Catholic Church of New Zealand, whose bishops and priests and even lay people are forbidden by order of same bishops to leave their homes, or to visit Our Lord in His.

It's been brought home to me in my bubble today, just how some people are affected by coronaphobia.

"Everyone's so frightened," says a friend - a well-educated friend, whose friends and family would comprise mostly good Protestants who believe in God, and as good Protestants also believe that when they die they'll go straight to Heaven, because they're 'saved'.

Someone else was in tears on the phone, accusing me of 'cynicism' and 'not taking this seriously!'

Another, a very well-informed traditional Catholic, texted the same message. She said it looked like she should be praying for me. "Take it seriously!"

I have encountered intransigence, complete and utter. A denial of the facts. Someone said they rely on the experts at WHO.

Those World 'Health' Organisation experts have:

  • Trained doctors in Africa to perform abortions, sometimes over their objections and perhaps even against the law.
  • WHO has released a new report promoting the use of abortion-inducing “contraception” for new mothers around the world.
  • WHO has long promoted abortion under the premise of health. The WHO has long claimed that legalized abortion is crucial to reducing the prevalence of "unsafe abortion."
  • WHO leaves member states with the clear implication that legalized abortion is necessary to protect women's health.
  • WHO never mentions the wealth of published research showing that abortion is harmful to women's physical, psychological, and emotional health. The WHO further peddles the association between wealthy western countries with liberal abortion laws and low maternal morbidity due to abortion as if the two were causally related by necessity.
  • WHO ignores the examples of pro-life countries with exceptionally low maternal mortality ratios (MMR) like Chile,[29] Ireland, Poland, and Malta which prove that there is no necessary association between legal abortion and low MMR.
  • Pro-life stakeholders should be attentive and concerned about the WHO's efforts to more closely integrate abortion and human rights law.

"The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good.He devises mischief on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he abhors not evil" (Ps 36:3).

I take coronaphobia extremely seriously. Especially as it affects Spain and Italy, 'Catholic' countries where abortion is now legal, and especially New York, whose 'Catholic' governor Andrew Cuomo recently enacted legislation which leaves babies who survive botched abortions to die, and nurses not permitted even to cradle them in their last moments.

I'm extremely concerned that God's justice might also wreak vengeance on New Zealand, and for similar reasons.

But I have a sense of humour and since I have in my 'bubble' someone who doesn't share my views, I have to repress my desire to laugh at the breathlessness of TvOne reporters, and at the PM, just like a headmistress at assembly needing to hold the attention of naughty girls, conveying the sad news of the death of one old lady in Greymouth as something of a national emergency.

The media love coronavirus. It saves them a lot of work. Quite apart from their lefty love of disaster which could deliver anarchy and a One World Government, they don't have to go looking for stories any more. And being 'essential services' they're allowed to go out and film the deserted streets we Catholics aren't allowed to walk in - not if we heed the instructions issued by our bishops.

One Catholic lay person, of irreproachable repute, has now earned the reproaches of her parish priest, by sitting outside her parish church to keep Our Lord, alone in the tabernacle inside, company. She's been told church property is all off limits. The bishops have said so. So there.
Forget the bishops for a moment. Dr Sukharit Bhakdi is a specialist in microbiology. He was a professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and head of the Institute for Medical Microbiology and Hygiene and one of the most cited research scientists in German history.
Dr Bhakdi says that "We are afraid that 1 million infections with the new virus will lead to 30 deaths per day over the next 100 days. But we do not realise that 20, 30, 40 or 100 patients positive for normal coronaviruses are already dying every day. The government’s anti-COVID19 measures are grotesque, absurd and very dangerous. All these measures are leading to self-destruction and collective suicide based on nothing but a spook. ..."
Then there's Dr Joel Kettner,  professor of Community Health Sciences and Surgery at Manitoba University, former Chief Public Health Officer for Manitoba province and Medical Director of the International Centre for Infectious Diseases. He saysI have never seen anything like this, anything anywhere near like this. I’m not talking about the pandemic, because I’ve seen 30 of them, one every year. It is called influenza. And other respiratory illness viruses, we don’t always know what they are. But I’ve never seen this reaction, and I’m trying to understand why.

Consult the other nine medical experts here, and decide for yourself whether or not coronavirus is the straw man I have said it to be. The figures might shoot up - they might even reach the "tens of thousands" that Aunty Ardern warned us about - but as yet they are lower than other infectious diseases such as flu.

It's a sad fact, but our emotions are manipulated by the camera which shows us shocking scenes of hospitals in Italy - where the population is top-heavy with old people afflicted with heart and lung disease brought on by over-eating and drinking and smoking. But the camera is not science. There's no data yet to show that Covid-19 is unusually lethal, so there's no reason why we should be locked up and treated like a police state yet.

Father Michael Johnson SSPX pointed out yesterday, in a cracker sermon delivered in St Anthony Whanganui's Priory Chapel to one altar server in reality but I hope thousands virtually, around the globe, that deaths around the globe from abortion, smoking, HIV-Aids etc put Covid-19 fatalities totally in the shade. I can't remember the stats - I don't usually have a pen and paper with me at Holy Mass.

But I do remember him saying that deaths from flu in the current season are 4 - 8 times higher than from Covid-19.

I remember he quoted the Honorable Jacinda Ardern's "tens of thousands" who might die; that "things will look worse before they get better"; that "the presence of police and military on our streets might be daunting"; and her reminder of "self-isolation requirements".

'Self isolation'??? Are we isolating ourselves, or are we being forced into isolation? Fr Johnson didn't say, but the inference was obvious - to me, anyway.

"We will play the role of enforcer," Father quoted the PM as saying. He didn't criticise her, except to comment that her "Be kind" evidently does not apply to babies in the womb.

He likened New Zealand to a police state. He traced the abolition of Holy Mass back to the French Revolution, when "then, as now, forbidden activities included public celebration of the Mass. Holy Communion was forbidden."

"THEY HAVE TAKEN AWAY MY LORD" is a letter written in 1801 by Father Demaris, Professor of Theology, Missionary of St. Joseph, at Lyon, France.

"The time is coming when most Catholics may not have good, true priests to say the Mass and to administer the sacraments. This has happened before and the following is a letter to the faithful explaining their plight and how to overcome it."

Father Michael Johnson of St Anthony's SSPX Whanganui has hard copies of that letter to give away to anyone who asks him at rmichaeljohnson@yahoo.com, with 'They have taken away my Lord' in the subject line. It's also to be found at https://jmjsite.com/letter_of_father_demaristhey_have_taken_away_my_lord.pdf

I quote from that letter:

"To love God and fear Him alone, such is the lot of a small number of the elect.
"It is this love and this fear that makes martyrs by detaching the Faithful from the world and attaching them to God and His Holy Law.
"To support this love and this fear, in your hearts, watch and pray."

NZ BISHOPS' LETTER: STAY HOME AND DON'T LET FATHER IN THE DOOR

And Jesus wept (Jn 11:35).

Jesus wept: His friend Lazarus was dead.  And we weep too, because on Passion Sunday, as we enter the commemoration of Our Lord's Passion, our Church also seems to have died.

No Mass. Churches locked. And our bishops, 'hidden away' in their palaces, write us a letter "following the leadership of Pope Francis" (who is also 'self-isolating' - yeah, right) "who has communicated the graces usually given through these sacraments (Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing) ... through a Plenary Indulgence".

Isn't it true that each Sacrament actually offers the sacramental grace which is proper to it alone?

"The Sacraments have an intrinsic power, in as much as they are the acts of Christ Himself who communicates and diffuses grace from the divine Head to the members of the Mystical Body" (Pius XII, Mediator Dei).

St Mary Magdalen dei Pazzi has exclaimed, "Oh, how great is the dignity of priests!  In ... administering the Sacraments, they give us Your treasures. They are, O Lord, Your secretaries and treasurers."

In the letter they released yesterday, NZ's bishops sound more like civil servants - even, some would say, Maori separatists.

The Maori translation of  'New Zealand Conference of Catholic Bishops' is writ, big and bold, over and above the English version. To be fair, if the bishops do that, should they not add the Philippino, Korean, Samoan, Chinese etc etc versions of NZCBC?

The date is given as 28 March 2020, rather than "Fifth Sunday of Lent" or 'The First Sunday of the Passion".  In their letter, the bishops forbid us to leave our homes, excepting only the exceptions laid down by our 'be kind' - except to unborn babies - Government.

The bishops give the conditions issued by "the Apostolic Penitentiary for people affected by the Covid-19 lockdown"- in other words, the entire scared-witless world - giving "a way (a Plenary Indulgence) for those in danger of death to be forgiven their sins and to be readied for eternity."

This Plenary Indulgence is granted also to the dying “provided that they are well disposed and have recited a few prayers during their lifetime.”

Just what does "well disposed" mean? How can a lay person, uncatechised due to the failure of priests since Vatican II to preach the commandments of God and His Church, and grieving at the imminent death of their spouse, take that in? It's not enough in these circumstances, when people are deprived of their priests, 'hidden away' for fear of illness, to issue such glib information.

Where is the requirement, if the dying person is conscious and sentient and hopes for heaven, of an act of perfect contrition??? For sorrow ex amore which springs from love of God who is infinite Goodness, rather than fear of punishment?

For the Sacrament of Confession to be valid, sorrow is necessary, otherwise there is no absolution. Does this not apply also to a Plenary Indulgence for the dying? I don't know; do the bishops know? If we asked our parish priest who is "available to give counsel via the telephone or online", as the bishops recommend, would he know?

Are the Apostolic Penitentiary and our bishops readying those in danger of death for eternity in Hell?

Jesus Christ comes in for a mention in the last three paragraphs of the two page letter (3-page, if you count the appended instructions for 'Quarantine').

In the entire letter there is not any mention of Our Lady, Mary the Mother of God and Mediatrix of all graces, or of the Rosary.

As a reader has commented, "We are seeing the triumph of Ecclesial Masonry".

We know, as Our Lord knew in weeping for Lazarus, that the Church is not dead, but only sleeping. Or as Our Lady said at La Salette, the Church is "in eclipse".

What a privilege then, is conferred on faithful Catholics, who in these days which commemorate the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, can run to His Cross with Him and be transformed in Him.

“The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families…that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.”

A TALE OF TWO CARDINALS, ONE KIWI, ONE POLISH

To comment, please open your gmail account, use my email address, Facebook, Messenger or Twitter. Scroll down for other comments.

The world crucified Christ, the Redeemer of mankind. Insane, as we Christians admit. But we do not recognise that same insanity, masked as Covid-19, which is now crucifying His Church.

It's worst manifestation, on the second day of lockdown, was apparent in the following communication to his flock from New Zealand's head shepherd, Cardinal John Atcherley Dew:

"If a priest is called to attend to the sick at home, this must be done by phone or electronic means such as video call rather than by home visit.

Technically it is the words and the oil, not the anointing touch that is the matter and form of the sacrament.”

"However, the risk of transmitting the virus by the proximity of the anointer and anointed (closer than one metre) means this is outside the regulations for social/physical distancing."

Our shepherds have abandoned their flock.

New Zealand’s bishops have fallen victim to coronaphobia, for which there is no known cure but Jesus Christ our Lord.

This insanity is the predictable result of putting man in the place of God - anthropocentrism - as we have done for 50 years, in the Novus Ordo (New Mass), where the priest stands in front of the Lord in the tabernacle, looking at his people - and his people look at the priest.

And to make matters worse, the priest - or 'ministers' - hand out the Body of our crucified Lord as if it were what it looks like - a wafer of bread - instead of placing it reverently on the 'lap' of the tongue as they would if they only recognised What they dare to hold between finger and thumb.
http://nzconservative.blogspot.com/2009/05/why-communion-on-tongue.html

In most of the Catholic world, frozen with fear by the 'Virus', the Church has fallen into the grave error of insisting on Communion in the hand in the mistaken belief that it's more 'sanitary'.

Well, dear cardinals, bishops and priests:don't talk Communion on the hand to Archbishop Jan Pawel of Poland, or you're likely to have your head ripped off at the knees.

+Pawel is one holy, angry, prelate. He reviles priests and bishops in this matter for stupidity and ignorance of Church history.

"They have no respect for the Most Blessed Sacrament and they force the faithful to violate their conscience. Poles don't want to take Communion in the hand standing up, like the degenerate Western world. It's an excuse to break people's conscience.

"These priests and bishops must stop (Communion in the hand) or they'll end up in Hell.

"Plagues did not stop people going to Church. Where are the bishops? Where are the cardinals? All hidden. They have left their poor people alone.

"Look at the doctors and nurses! Fighting and dying on the frontline! The priests have run away. They want to live long. Where are the Church hierarchy, usually so self-confident and important? All hidden away. They've become administrators.

"Don't just mindlessly listen to the Government! Be creative! Think out of the box!

"You are an old priest, an old bishop. You are going to die soon, and you are still afraid of death? Sacrifice yourself for the people! Communion must be received internally, not just virtually.

"They are well-stocked and have multiple parishioners waiting on them hand and foot, making sure the bishop doesn't lose weight.

"There is panicked fear everywhere, instead of fear of God, of Judgment Day, of God's punishment which will come!

'The Cardinals are hiding away. If you try to tell them something bold they say, "That is too harsh! Who will listen to you?"

"They said the same things to Christ. They don't want to listen to the truth because they live in a different paradigm. It's a disaster!

"Gentlemen, bend your knees! Let us pray for the Church."

PUTTING OUR LORD IN LOCKDOWN, CHURCH AND ECONOMY IN ECLIPSE

"We don't close down churches. The Coronavirus cannot survive in the Eucharistic Body of Christ; it will soon be burnt away."

Dear Bishops of New Zealand, do you see? It doesn't have to be this way. There's no need to put Our Eucharistic Lord in lockdown.

John Magufuli is president of Tanzania, a country of 57 million people, and a Catholic. On Laetare Sunday (ironically for New Zealanders denied Holy Mass, the Sunday to "Rejoice!") he spoke at St Paul's Cathedral in the nation's capital.

“I insist upon you my fellow Christians and even (Muslims), do not be afraid, do not stop gathering to glorify God and praise Him,” said Magufuli. “That is why as a government we didn’t close down churches or mosques.
“Instead, they should be always open for the people to seek refuge to God,” Magufuli insisted. “Churches are places where people could seek the true healing, because there the True God resides. Do not...be afraid of praising and seeking God’s face in the Church.
“That is exactly why I did not panic while taking the Holy Communion, because I knew, with Jesus in the Eucharist I am safe,” said President Magufuli. “This is the time of building our faith in God.”

In a previous display of his Catholic faith, in 2018 Magufuli encouraged Tanzanians to disregard the pressure coming from pro-contraception foreigners and continue reproducing. He promised that the government would improve healthcare, specifically maternal health with the building of 67 new hospitals.
Bishop Serverus Jjumba of Masaka, Uganda, has told his people that God sent the coronavirus to show He is still in command.
"God is angry with mankind because people no longer respet Him, and they behave in (an) unbecoming manner," he said. He asked the Catholic community to pray to God through the 22 Ugandan martyrs so that Covid-19 is ended throughout the world.

Magufili and Jjumba are contributing to the fulfilment of a prediction of Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Kazakhstan, in his must-read Christus Vincit, that Africa will show the post-Christian Western world the way back to Christ:
"I think that the Catholic bishops of Africa can give to the world, especially in the West, this fresh air of a pure childlike faith and a deep reverence for the sacred. Yes, a deep reverence for the laws of God. ... The African people still have a repentant and contrite soul.
"Euthanasia is unthinkable for an African ...even to put one's parents in a nursing home is unthinkable for the Africans.
"These values of the fresh, pure faith of a child, the attitude of repentance of a sinner, the deep sense of family, and respect and love for the parents, will enrich Western people and the Church in Western countries.
"For (Africans), even for non-Christians, contraception is unthinkable. They have the natural instinct that contraception is against nature. It is an issue of natural law.
"Western society is once again becoming barbaric, with barbarian cruelties. The number of abortions perpetrated in the Western world is barbaric and is worse than the cruelest pagan practices in Africa. ... People are killing their own babies on a mass scale and justifying this with laws."
You may think this is all a digression. It's not.
Only two days after Ardern et al passed a world-beater in horrific abortion law, the Catholic bishops of our country cancelled all public Masses, making it impossible for their people to attend and assist at Mass in our churches.

(Even St Anthony's SSPX Whanganui is forced to comply - but you can 'assist' at their Masses every day, virtually, as I did this arvo. Tomorrow I will use headphones: all I could hear was the server's cough, so I missed Fr Francois Laisney's ten-minute sermon - yes, even on a weekday Low Mas. I'll return to it tomorrow with the headgear.)
Behold now, the wrath of God. We do not deserve the august Sacrifice of the Mass, so it's been confiscated. Pope Paul VI stated in his Encyclical Mysterium Fidei of 1965, "In the Mass the Church ... applies the unique and infinite redemptive power of the sacrifice of the Cross to the salvation of the whole world.
Behold, the wrath of God also in imposing His own Lenten retreat on the world. Cafes and bars and nightclubs and restaurants are shut down: no more lattes or sauvignon blanc poured. Airplanes are grounded: no more "Today it's Tuesday, so this must be Belgium". Cruise ships are docked, unhappy passengers condemned to their cabins. Business is unbusied, employees unemployed.
And to what end?
According to Terence Corcoran, writing in the Financial Post:
The global economic experiment in pandemic control continues to expand, nation by nation, economic sector by economic sector, worker by worker. Governments are getting the headlines: In Japan there is talk of US$260 billion in government action. The U.S. is said to be aiming for US$1 trillion in new spending. Canada announced $82 billion in direct and indirect spending. France $550 billion. Spain $150 billion.

And so it goes around the globe, and where it will end, nobody knows.

At Catholic Culture, Jeff Mirus has dared to ask a few questions about the level of panic we are witnessing and the degree of overweening government interventions.

Economies are being destroyed around the world, including in the United States. This is happening not because of the devastation of the Coronavirus but because of the governmental fear that the virus might be devastating if extreme anti-plague measures are not adopted. As the prevention measures become more and more stringent, most of the public assumes they are more and more necessary—that COVID-19 must really be a very serious threat. After all, even if it isn’t so bad right now, it might mutate into something worse.

Almost anyone who looks at the hard data realizes, to put it in terms used this week by two very intelligent, well-informed, and seriously Catholic personal friends, that “the body count just doesn’t add up.” A relatively small number (as epidemics go) have caught the virus, and an extraordinarily small number of people have had severe symptoms from the virus. Moreover, even those very few who have died of it have almost universally been not only elderly but already seriously weakened by some other condition.

The American political science scholar Angelo Codevilla is also asking some questions:
Our 21st-century “developed” world, which so touts its own rationality, is now engaged in the historically unprecedented attempt to shut down most social and economic intercourse for the sake of mitigating the effects of a virus the lethality of which is far more like recent strands of the flu than that of the plague.

While everyone is in a panic about the coronavirus (officially renamed COVID-19 by the World Health Organization), there's an even deadlier virus many people are forgetting about: the flu.
Flu season is hitting its stride right now in the US. So far, the CDC has estimated (based on weekly influenza surveillance data) that at least 12,000 people have died from influenza between Oct. 1, 2019 through Feb. 1, 2020, and the number of deaths may be as high as 30,000.
The CDC also estimates that up to 31 million Americans have caught the flu this season, with 210,000 to 370,000 flu sufferers hospitalized because of the virus.

Let this sink in. 31 million Americans have had the flu.  Thousands have died.  This season.  In a well vaccinated environment, relative to coronavirus.  And in a not especially bad American flu season.

And so huge numbers of people around the world are faced with economic ruin.

The American conservative pundit and Editor of The New Criterion Roger Kimball believes that all the government induced panic is both exaggerated and irresponsible:
I believe that panic-stricken scenarios are not only wildly exaggerated but also irresponsible. Many commentators, including me, have noted that the common flu is 1) more contagious, 2) infects millions every years, and 3) kills many more people, especially young and otherwise healthy people than this latest Chinese import.

In Australia and in other Western countries (like New Zealand), governments have set in train embedded panic and have instituted measure way out of proportion to the real nature of the threat.  Many people are simply scared witless, even though their chances of getting ill are, objectively, miniscule."

What New Zealand should fear far more than the latest bug is the prospect of Big Sister Jacinda Ardern, having charmed and nannied the nation through her four weeks of incarceration, being re-elected in September and smilingly prime ministering mass killing of babies (and old people, if euthanasia gets enough ticks), ably assisted I'm sorry to say, by our leftish Church hierarchy and the media, who love nothing more than a Crisis and who will keep it going at all costs, the greatest cost being the nation's loss of life, not through the panicemic of coronavirus but through being manoeuvred into greater control by the State.

But even more than all of this, New Zealand Catholics should fear not loss of their life, or loss of life in their family, but the loss of their eternal life.

It's glaringly obvious, even without the shining comparison of Catholic orthodoxy afforded by the Prime Minister of Tanzania and the Ugandan bishop, that the Church in New Zealand is terribly wanting in faith.

Bishop Schneider presents us with a principle: “God is more important, and eternity is more important, than the creature and the temporal realities, just as the soul is in itself more important than the body, for the soul is immortal.”

It's a principle which seems lost to our bishops. There were so many options available to them, but they jumped the gun even on this sick government in their haste to cancel the Mass and lock up, but not down, our Eucharistic Lord.

"Out of this principle flows the conviction that the Church should always have the supernatural at the center of her activities.
"Yet Bishop Schneider sees that Modernism – which is a “denial or the weakening of the supernatural” and the inordinate stressing of history and reason – has entered the life of the Catholic Church:
“Since the Second Vatican Council,” he states, “the Church in her life has yielded in large measure to the influence of secularism and naturalism.” In this sense, he adds, there has currently taken place “an eclipse” of the “primacy of God, of eternity, of the primacy of grace, of prayer, of sacredness, and of adoration.”

"It is quite disquieting," writes Bishop Schneider in Christus Vincit, to read the statement of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Spain on December 27, 2018: "that all Freemasons of the world join with the petition of the pope for fraternity among diverse religions."

The Freemason architects of Vat II's Novus Ordo, chief among them Mons Annibale Bugnini, have succeeded probably beyond their wildest dreams: in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Slovakia, Malta, Austria, Ireland, parts of the US, Quebec, Peru, Philippines, parts of Vietnam and in Ghana, the lay faithful are now unable to attend Holy Mass.

The Church is indeed in eclipse, just as Our Lady predicted at La Salette, France.

"Rome will lose the Faith and become the seat of the Antichrist ...

"The Church will be in eclipse, the world will be in dismay. ... At first, we will not know which is the true pope. Then secondly, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will cease to be offered in churches and houses; it will be such that, for a time, there will not be public services any more. But I see that the Holy Sacrifice has not really ceased: it will be offered in barns, in alcoves, in caves, and underground."

Praying the Rosary daily and finishing with the Prayer to St Michael, we could reflect in these days of  enforced Retreat on passages from that prayer of Pope Leo XIII which have been lost over the years:

"These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions.

"In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered

O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we implore thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious Archangel St Michael, thou wouldst help us against Satan and all other unclean spirits who wander about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen."
