‘Isolationist’, ‘divisive’, ‘disrespectful’, ‘aggressive’, ‘exclusively superior’.
That, according to the Latin Mass Society (LMSNZ) in a letter to members, is what New Zealand's Bishops think of "certain individuals" who have "a tendency towards a "TLM (Latin Mass) only" mentality which is causing separation from the wider Catholic community."
And the LMSNZ itself weighs in, citing "an extreme, loud few" ... who at least partly caused the Holy Father to think he should place the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) provision under stricter regulation".
It's even been suggested elsewhere that these 'certain individuals' were the cause of Cardinal John Dew's cancellation of the thriving TLM community of St Columba's Ashhurst.
Surely not. Any good Catholic expects that a prince of the Church will be guided in such punitive action by the Holy Spirit for the edification of the Body of Christ, not by annoyance or petulance.
And any Catholic would expect the LMSNZ to be exercised - as they rightly are - about preservation of the TLM, famously described by Father Faber as "the most beautiful thing this side of heaven", which 'the Holy Father' has attempted, by his Motu Proprio Traditionis Custodes', to wipe off the face of the earth.
But the Latin Mass Society believes that restoration of the Latin Mass in New Zealand depends on staying on the right side of the Bishops, who - although not obliged by canon law to do so - have opted to go along with 'the Holy Father' and his ambitions of cancelling the Mass which for two millenia united Catholics throughout the world in holy worship of their God.
First, that begs a question: how can the liturgy which the Church in her wisdom judged to be holy and reverent for two thousand years suddenly, with Vatican II's invention of the 'New Mass' (Novus Ordo), become so bad that the Vetus Ordo (Old Mass) has to be stamped out? The truth is that the Latin Mass cannot be stamped out, because as its ascendancy in establishing and preserving Christendom throughout the centuries proved, the Old Mass is the supreme expression of the Sacrifice of Calvary, of God's love for mankind and the teaching of the Apostles.
Second, if 'the Holy Father' really was caused by 'people with a 'TLM- only mentality' (who are they?) to think he should place the TLM 'under stricter regulation', then that would go to show, would it not, what a threat the TLM constitutes to 'the Holy Father' and his plans for cancelling the entire Catholic Church in favour of a new world church - headed of course, by his Holy self.
For 20 centuries the TLM was the Church's bulwark against the seas of heresy. But now that 'the Holy Father' has partly succeeded in that bulwark's demolition, we are edified by such egregious enormities as his Synod's Document for the Continental Stage (DCS) which expresses its desire for the Church to recognise polygamous marriages.
Third, if the NZ Bishops' feelings really are hurt by the 'attitude of exclusive superiority' displayed by 'certain individuals', then the bishops are in need of our compassion and prayer, not our subservience and false obedience to an immoral diktat from a bad 'pope'. They need our compassion and prayer also for other considerations, such as these documents issued by the NZCBC during 2022:
- 'Ministers of Consolation and Hope' which effectively sanctions full priestly support for the serious sin of euthanasia (with almost no exceptions)
- 'Aroha and Inclusiveness in Catholic Schools' which effectively sanctions teaching the homosexual agenda and sodomy in Catholic schools.
- 'NZCBC National Synthesis in response to the Synod on Synodality' –
which hints very strongly at acceptance of female and married priests, polygamous marriages, a
radical gay agenda etc.
It's what Dr Peter Kwasniewski calls "the beaten wife syndrome": if lay people carry on the way we have, rolling over and taking whatever a modernist hierarchy dishes out in the way of apostasy, heresies and irreverence, then the Church in New Zealand can only expect more of the same, and indeed is guaranteed to get it, per kind favour of 'the Holy Father's' 'Sinod on Sindodality' next year.
St. Thomas makes it very clear that we are under immediate and exceptionless obedience to no one but God; all His human representatives must follow divine and natural law and reverence ecclesiastical law and custom.. https://onepeterfive.com/pro-tlm-strategies-traditionis-custodes/
Thirdly, many Latin Massgoers also attend their local parish Novus Ordo and are even found 'on the roster' (for 'profane' ministries like cleaning, not 'sacred' as in eucharistic, which because they are properly catechised they know are reserved to the ordained). So the Bishops would seem to be somewhat lacking in charity towards their own - towards many in 'the wider Catholic community', including as that does a good number of Latin Massgoers. It makes one wonder just in whom that 'TLM only mentality' exists.
Bishop Emeritus Peter Cullinane of Palmerston North Diocese knows very well, through personal witness to the fact at his 'catechesis' sessions for the St Columba's community, how involved many Latin Massgoers are - because no TLM is within driving distance, in their NO communities. A reader of this blog has helpfully pointed out, for the Bishops' consideration, the fact that Latin weekday Massgoers are assisting at Novus Ordo liturgies more often than N O people who tend strongly to be Sundays-only.
+Cullinane's 'catecheses' were painful, both to the catechised and quite obviously to the Bishop, who heard a few truths of the Catholic Faith which seemed to come as a surprise to him.. And these sessions at St Columba's were simply an exercise in window-dressing:. +Cullinane was and is Cardinal Dew's man on the spot during this prolonged wait for an episcopal appointment to the PN Diocese and it would seem likely it was +Cullinane, whom the LMSNZ implied in their letter to be impatient to wind down the TLM all over the country, who sealed Palmerston North's fate, if not that of the whole Wellington Archdiocese, as the Land of Mordor. .
The Bishops may remember that in 2021 it was they themselves who caused liturgical separation of Latin Massgoers (who are almost all unvaccinated) from "the wider Catholic community" who'd been guided by their shepherds into the line-up for an experimental gene serum manufactured with the unsolicited assistance of murdered babies which reaped vast, immoral earnings for Bill Gates, Big Pharma and in particular the booming trade in fetal tissue.
self-explanatory |
By order of the Bishops unvaxxed Latin Massgoers were herded away, in a kind of religious apartheid, from the goody two-shoes majority. One reader of this blog, apparently the only unvaxxed person in the parish, was relegated to solitary confinement in a separate chapel away from the rest of the congregation.
The Bishops may inflict this sort of treatment (some would call it persecution) on Latin Massgoers to their hearts' content, including even their cancellation of the Mass of Ages - "the most beautiful thing this side of heaven" which is our sustenance, our passionate desire, our holy grail. And for that cancellation they cannot entirely blame 'the Holy Father', as they have the right as bishops to invoke Canon 87, to dispense from particular or universal disciplinary laws - even those issued by the supreme authority of the Church.
The Bishops may do this. They may make their people suffer by refusing them the Divine food which is theirs by right. They have that power. But their people have the power of prayer, and may rejoice at such cruel treatment, knowing that Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Mt 5:10).
We are dealing here with mysterium iniquitatis - the mystery of evil, which makes no sense to those who love God. We must combat this evil with daily prayer for the cleansing of the Church, and fasting, and if necessary by combat (hand-to-hand even) with Bishops and Cardinals, even the 'pope' himself if the glory of God and the good of Holy Church demand it. It's not fun and we will make enemies while we're at it, but by God's grace we will love those enemies who bring us closer to Christ.
Our Divine Master denounced evil whenever He met it - and perhaps it was the epithets He hurled at the Scribes and Pharisees which inspired the NZ Bishops' denunciations of their critics. But in the divide-and-conquer tactic of setting the Latin Mass Society at odds with Latin Massgoers - and in their polity generally - the Bishops are clearly taking their cue from 'the Holy Father'.
Pope Benedict XVI celebrates the Latin Mass |
The true Holy Father, Pope Benedict XIV, will soon be freed from this mortal coil. He needs our prayer in his passage into eternity and we need to pray not just for his soul but even more intensely for the Church, once he has gone.
Because another reader of this blog suggests that the Papacy is the Great Restrainer (Katechon) of 2 Thessalonians 2 and that at his departure "all hell will break loose".
From the Second Letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians, Chapter
Two
. [6] And now you know what withholdeth, that he may be revealed in his time. [7] For the mystery of iniquity already worketh; only that he who now holdeth, do hold, until he be taken out of the way.
[8] And then that wicked one shall be revealed whom the Lord Jesus shall kill with the spirit of His mouth; and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming, him, [9] whose coming is according to the working of Satan, in all power, and signs, and lying wonders, [10]
And in all seduction of
iniquity to them that perish; because they receive not the love of the truth,
that they might be saved. Therefore
God shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying:
[11] That all may be judged who have not believed the truth, but have consented to iniquity.
[14] Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle.
If the cap fits wear it!
ReplyDeleteThe bishops have a delicate balancing act. They want to introduce their radical inclusive modernist agenda but not cause the laity to melt down. The hierarchy seems to have two main strategies, a bogus synod and using the Latin Mass community as whipping boys.
ReplyDeleteThe synod has had incredibly low participation from Catholics globally (the order of 1%), but it will be stage managed to justify the modernist agenda.
The 'rigid' Latin Mass community has been singled out as the source of dissent, and Traditionis Custodes has put the boot into them. Trashing the Latin Mass will never alter the fact that the modernist agenda trashes Sacred Scripture and 2000 years of Church doctrine.
The hierarchy has constructed an elaborate narrative that Latin Mass adherents reject Vatican II and the Novu Ordo Mass. This diversion is clever, it avoids mentioning the real problem, the modernist agenda. In fact only a tiny, tiny minority reject Vatican II.
The message from the Church hierarchy is, if you dissent, you will be hit hard. But if you submit they might grudgingly let you have a Latin Mass.
The dissent against modernism is mostly silenced for now but it is increasingly rampant throughout the Catholic community (Latin Mass and Novus Ordo).
Anyone who has studied the history of Catholicism knows the harder we are marginalised, the stronger we get.
