The feast of Our Lady of Fatima by night

Today we celebrate Our Lady of Fatima. We should be celebrating Our Lord's Ascension into heaven, but that feast went the way of several others, seconded by "The Spirit of Vatican II" to the nearest Sunday. It's the Novus Ordo effect.

Anyway, four years ago 'im indoors and I were privileged to be at Fatima for the second time, for the centenary of Our Lady's first apparition in a field in Portugal to three shepherd children, in 1917.

Jorge Bergoglio was there too, in 2017. Someone in our tour group asked me, that afternoon, why I was loitering in the hotel foyer while everyone else was on tippy-toes on the processional route, waiting with bated breath for His Holiness to pass by. I think I remember saying I wouldn't cross the street to see 'Pope Francis'. Obviously I was already steamed up about Bergoglio - but what heretical water has passed under the bridge since then!

Reminding 'im indoors of the feast this morning I mentioned, perhaps unwisely, the phenomenon of the fake Sister Lucy, a subject I dealt with on this blog over a year ago. We were blessed to have Holy Mass in our parish this morning, the first since Sunday; and Father prayed the Collect and Offertory proper to the Blessed Virgin Mary. For that I was thankful.

On the Sensus Fidelium website I see traditional Catholics mentioning not just Mass but novenas, recitation of the Rosary, Adoration of the Eucharist, re-dedication to the first five Saturdays, a procession, Benediction: we may safely assume all of the above was happening overseas, not in this benighted country, ruled by a modernist cardinal and bishops.

But I am indebted to Facebook for the following, originally posted in Spanish and edited slightly by moi. to make for easier reading.

"The appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima is undoubtedly the most important Marian apparition of the 20th Century. Not only because of the significance of the message, but also because of the heavenly choice of three humble little children, who would carry on their shoulders a mission of unimaginable portent.

Three little shepherds were willing to give their lives to amend for the sins of humanity and promote devotion to the Immaculate heart of Mary. Three children who would do penance, pray daily 'El Santo Rosario' and show us by example the understanding of their commitment, with great sufferings, misunderstandings and the generous dedication of their lives.

The Miracle of the Sun would become known as the signature of Our Lady to these apparitions, a witness in the presence of 70,000 pilgrims, but over time, the content of 'the Third Secret of Fatima' would awaken even more curiosity than this stupendous miracle, because it was imagined that the content of that message would be one of harsh prophecies and possible chastisements for humanity.

However after many years, (from 1917 to this day), we can rest assured that in Fatima, the Virgin appeared to tell us about the victory of good over evil, not to fill us with fear or uncertainty for the future.

Fatima is a sign of the tenderness and concern of our Mother - who sees us all as her beloved children and her messengers.

We are all poor in the eyes of God, all sinners, men in need of the Lord's mercy. We live in the midst of the constant struggle of wanting to do good and constantly fall into sin because of our weakness, but the sacraments drive us to stand up again and move forward.

Let's celebrate May 13 with unshakable hope, being sure that the triumph of Mary's Immaculate Heart is getting closer every day.

Let us witness to the triumph of good over evil, the power of love over hate. We fight, with the power of prayer and under the mantle and care of our Lady the Virgin, the cruelty of the infernal enemy, who rejoices in the pain and suffering of man.

Let us not be discouraged, do not let current events discourage us or obscure our joy. God has always helped his afflicted children and this will not be an exception, The Lord will heal the sick, comfort the downhearted, dry our tears and heal this earth with the strength of His Presence and the embracing Fire of the Holy Spirit.

          Australians “want to eliminate Covid”. 

So says the Zero Covid Man, aka the Australian Prime Minister (Scott Morrison, in case you Kiwis don't know). 

Perhaps the greatest fear is that he might be right.  If so, then comes the question: is it worse to have a stupid prime minister who does really dumb things, or an evil prime minister who knowingly does what he knows to be stupid but popular?  

In New Zealand, that's not quite the question. We certainly have an evil prime minister, who apparently is known in some quarters (probably RNZ National) as an 'Empath' but whose empathy is certainly not with the most vulnerable, a prime minister who may or may not be stupid as well as evil. 

Invoking Australian voters as the real drivers of evil policies is spineless blame shifting, the worst form of populism and an admission that “I am not up to telling the hard truth if it means I get shafted electorally”.

The ex-cricketer and now commentator Michael Slater opined that the Prime Minister had “blood on his hands” over what Andrew Bolt and many careerist backbenchers – typically too spineless to speak out – regarded as a step way too far over travel bans and legal threats for Australians trapped in India.  That was before anyone attempting to escape India actually died.  One (permanent resident) now has.

At least there is now at least one Australian politician willing, at last, to state his or her position on Covid.  This might be deemed progress, for which, I suppose, we should be grateful.  Mostly they simply spit out scientistic platitudes and focus-group-tested cliches.  And hide behind sanctimonious, deeply flawed, unelected health bureaucrats.  But this is the most for which we can be grateful.

What does “eliminating” Covid mean for ordinary people?  Basically, it means Stalin on steroids.

It means endless internal and external border closures – mean, shameless and dictatorial.  It means truncated interstate trade and travel.  It means lockdowns on a whim, without notice.  Mask mandates.  Bans at worst and curbs at best on normal activity.   Enforced incarceration. 

New Zealand has that in common with Australia, at least. 

Threats of prison. 

Yep, that too. 

The stifling, joy-draining bureaucratisation of everything. 

And that.

Reporting in doorways before masked officials in order to have a pint or to worship your God.

It means endless, metastasising calls on the budget.  It means the loss, possibly permanent, of any sense among both politicians and voters that budget deficits and debt matter.  Witness the drunken sailor budgets in Australia and the UK, where Tory governments are spending like there is no tomorrow. 

Just how much did it cost to send that dead turtle to Te Papa and then back to the beach again? More than $10,000.

 

(The USA’s Covid related spending is routinely measured in the trillions).  No day of fiscal reckoning.  Doing the Labor Party’s normal job of screwing the economy for it.

Worldwide economic collapse is coming. Get ready.

It means printing money that we do not have.  It means people who do not have work to do becoming permanent, paid wards of the State.  It means giving voters no choice, since they all either agree with one another or don’t have the guts to oppose the Covid theatre that now substitutes for governing.  It means massive inconvenience.  It means freedoms destroyed. The freedom to do everyday, mundane things that render individual lives workable and occasionally even memorable.   Memorable is but a distant … well … memory.

The Prime Minister and his National Cabinet of complicit autocrats were the people responsible for creating among the voters the triple evils of irrational fear bordering on hysteria, venal and self-serving behaviour, and massively increased dependence on the State. 

In New Zealand, in these matters hysteria Ardern, Little&Co, Death Dealers to the Nation, have the eager assistance of the NZ Conference of Catholic Bishops.   

These are the direct outcomes of actions and words by Morrison, Hunt, Andrews, McGowan and the entire pygmy-premier cohort.  And their deeply mediocre, crypto-fascist health ministers.

In embracing Zero Covid, politicians – let us not make a category error and call them leaders – are (yet again) displaying cognitive dissonance.  The ability (with ease) to hold in their minds two contradictory beliefs, since they know – if they read their science briefs, as they profess to – that achieving zero Covid is an impossibility, since Covid is global, endemic, seasonal and prone to mutating endlessly (as Ivor Cummins and many others have pointed out, repeatedly). 

It isn’t going away.  And they all know this.  And yet they pretend that THEIR policies can fix it, can make it go away, and stay away.  This is not stupid.  The voters are stupid to put up with it. 

"Smiling zombies", as Gordon MacLauchlan termed the Kiwi version. Karl du Fresne more kindly calls us "passive". 

It is evil.  Evil perpetrated by the political class.  And spineless.Morrison and his peers see “no appetite” for any change to the current stifling regime, a regime of international travel bans only otherwise elsewhere embraced by Cuba and North Korea.  (Pleasant company indeed).  The appetite for freedom in Australia has been suppressed by a government-led and media supported campaign of deceit, exaggeration, half-truths, propaganda, endless repetition of messaging and fearmongering.  Even rusted-on leftists like Naomi Wolf see this.

The state created a moral panic over a, for most, utterly harmless virus from which the few who actually experience symptoms, let alone severe symptoms, completely recover. 

 Yep.Over 99 per cent.

Most of those who have “little appetite for change” do not know these things.  The evidence from the UK suggests that people there have a misinformed and hopelessly exaggerated sense of the actual threat posed by Covid.  Similar polls, were they to be done here, might well reveal similar ignorance.

Same here. 

Of course, there is no appetite for change.  The low information voter has been tricked into jumping at shadows.

Both India and the emergence of new variants of the virus have proven immensely rewarding for the political class and for all those who are now far more broadly recognised to be benefiting from “Forever Covid”.  These have proven to be aces in the hole.  Bodies in the streets have allowed follower-leaders like Scott Morrison to insist that Australia’s Covid luck, occasioned by a range of factors that have very little to do with government policy, is something not to be “traded away” under any circumstances, by re-embracing freedom, normalcy and international openness.  Talk about killing globalisation, including good globalisation with all its economic benefits, with fortress isolationism. 

 “Fortress Down Under”, indeed.  Here we have bad populism defeating good globalisation.  Whereas Brexit and Trump represented good populism defeating bad globalisation.

Yes indeed. 

Painting the rest of the world as “India” is palpably dishonest as well as absurd, as is Morrison’s baseless claim that “the pandemic is going nowhere”.  What happened to the saviour that was “Scotty’s Jab”?  The jab was yesterday’s silver bullet.  Now the answer is endless isolation and “The Fortress”.

"Oh the shame, oh the igonomy" as someone used to say. NZ is lagging behind Oz. The jab is still our silver bullet. Does this mean we have endless isolation and "The Fortress" to look forward to?

The world isn’t India.  India isn’t necessarily even India, the India portrayed hysterically by the appalling fourth estate. 

Oh yes. 

India’s failings in treating the epidemic of Covid relate to India, not to Covid.  Tell the people of Florida that the world is “India”.  Much of the world, especially the countries now moving into their northern summer, and with the much-hyped assistance of (admittedly, variably performing) vaccines as well as their populations’ rapidly developing immunity, know only good news stories.  India is not a nothingburger.  But it is irrelevant to Australia’s Covid policy drivers.  It is yet another stick with which to beat weary, cowed Australians. 

But, unlike, Scott Morrison, I wonder for how long the lack of appetite for freedom and normalcy will last.  Will we ever wake up, rouse ourselves to righteous anger, and storm the fortress that is built on quicksand?  Otherwise, this is forever.  Only relentless public action in support of freedom will work. 

As you might expect a traditional Catholic blog to state: it's only prayer + relentless public action in support of freedom that will work. And you might well state - given the modernist, socialist bishops of New Zealand - fat chance. No novenas, no Rosaries, no Holy Hours for the state of the nation or even for the unborn under their watch, not even when late-term abortions have risen since Ardern's ALA by 42%.  

We know what changes politicians’ minds.  They are in the blissful position, though, having duped their people with self-serving subterfuge, of not ever having to justify their wicked actions.

Morrison says that “once you let it back in, you cannot get it out”.  Really, this is what he says, and professes to believe.  As I have argued before, we needed Churchill, and we got this guy.

            "Describing Mary as a sister of one of the Gospel women, or placing Mary as one of a 'sisterhood of celebrated women' is to derogate and depart from the true sense of sacred tradition and the Gospels."

Matthew and Teresa Walton of Palmerston North take exception to the article by Brother Kieran Fenn F M S published in NZ Catholic (May 2). As well they might. 

 "Such a description is really an anti-doctrine created on the apparent basis of the people known to be present (on Calvary)" they add. "It is in effect, to deny Mary her Divine Maternity and hence, all her other privileges."

In other words, Keiran Fenn's "anti-doctrine" is Protestant thinking. 

"In claiming that Mary had a sister on Calvary (May 2 N.Z.Catholic) Br. Kieran Fenn F.M.S. shows he is not in touch with the record from Sacred Tradition. Overall, from sources including the Gospels and sacred tradition we have a list of those women who were on Calvary with Mary in the final moments (of Christ's Passion) and who were there when Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus came to assist John in bringing Jesus' body down from the Cross.

"These women were: Mary Magdalen, Mary of Alphaeus (the mother of James and Jude), Mary Salome (the mother of James and John), Susanna and Martha. There were other women present on the day (of Christ's Passion) but they had had to go down (from Calvary) earlier.

"None of these women was a blood sister to Mary. Mary of Alphaeus was her sister-in-law (married to Alphaeus, the brother of St Joseph). As we know, a "sister-in-law" can sometimes be known as a 'sister'. We refer the reader to The Poem of the Man-God by Maria Valtorta, a work regarded as being fully consistent with authentic Catholic theology and with all the relevant secular disciplines.

"In the human and natural sense, these women assisted Mary at the Deposition of Jesus' Body. In the spiritual and theological sense they were then, and remain, her daughters in faith in Christ.

"For Mary is the "Mother of all the living".

"One of the ways we can know Mary is through knowledge of dogma and accepted Doctrine. The dogma here is that of the Motherhood of God - which Jesus on the Cross extended to embrace all of humanity, in particular those who profess belief in Jesus.

 "The doctrine that applies here is that of Mary as Co-Redemptrix with Christ our Redeemer, our redemption having been brought about by the union of the suffering of the Son and the Mother. The presence of the women on Calvary went beyond the merely human sense; it carried with it the real sense of assisting Mary as their Queen and Mother in the Act of Redemption.

"Further, tradition and the Gospel place only one child in Mary's original family. "Anne, wife of Joachim, conceived in her old age". Tradition also tells us that at the age of three, Mary was handed over to the Temple and placed under the guidance of Anna.

"Tradition has always accepted without the slightest doubt that the point of creating Mary - and this parallels Jesus -  was not to give her blood-brothers and sisters, but to bring into the world this unique person who was to be the Mother of our Saviour and thus our Mother too.

God's economy of salvation is intended for each person created, with equal dignity in the eyes of God. Humans being what they are, if any were closely related to Jesus or Mary they would have made a claim of superiority or preference on the basis of their close relationship to the Saviour.

Even as things were, there was a tendency for later generations to make such claims on the basis of their being descended from cousins of Jesus.

"We know now, that in her Divine Maternity,  Mary becomes "Mother of all the living".

Catholic Bishops of New Zealand: since Ardern's Abortion Legislation Act abortions have risen - as you were warned - by 42%. 

By your token resistance to this evil you contributed to the deaths of these babies and damage to their mothers.

Your lordships, you should have spoken out against abortion but you didn't. You have no business speaking out for vaccination but you do. You are not shepherds but wolves in sheep's clothing.

In urging your people - in fact the entire nation - to submit to a supposed vaccination against Covid-19 you are very gravely mistaken.

We the faithful of the sheepfold of the Church resist being mustered up like this by the head shepherd, ‘Pope Francis’, and his heading dogs, into a global collaboration with the baby-butchers who merchandise murder by abortion.

The bishops’ “Covid-19 Vaccine and Immunisation Programme” 2-page centre spread in the May ‘Welcom’ (bulked up with ballast from their 'Nathaniel Centre for Bioethics' for a veneer of authenticity) would be laughable were it not so dangerously compromising to the physical and – much worse, spiritual - health of New Zealanders.

The bishops call it a vaccine; Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò and others far more qualified than the bishops say it's an experimental genetic serum. In either case it owes its existence to infants murdered (no matter how remotely) and to peddle it in the house of God is a very grievous insult to His crucified Son, Our Eucharistic Lord. This must be defined as sacrilege. 

The bishops have evidently converted to the world which once crucified Christ, the world which did not and does not and will never know Him, a world, what’s more, which is infinitely more evil now than that of the Jews and the Romans – than Pilate or Caiaphas, and yes, more evil even than Judas.

Jesus was crucified because He would not conform to the values of the world, and He commands His followers – all Catholics and Christians and especially prelates and priests - to reject those values also. 

But instead the bishops are doing their utmost to promote, in this country (pandering to a socialist Government which legislated to kill babies up to birth), what Bishop Athanasius Schneider describes as “the cruel genocide of the unborn”. 

This saintly bishop says that "it is incomprehensible how churchmen, with the aid of abstract theories from moral theology, can tranquilise the conscience of the faithful, by allowing them to use such vaccines and medicines." What on earth would Bishop Schneider say about churchmen who eagerly offer the houses of God for what he calls “promoting the murder of children and the exploitation of their remains”, and go so far as to cajole the faithful into complying?

“Anti-Christian world powers,” says Bishop Schneider, “that promote the culture of death are seeking to impose on the world’s population an implicit – though remote and passive – collaboration with abortion.  … (T)hese same world powers are promoting the murder of children and the exploitation of their remains.

" …When we use vaccines or medicines that utilize cell lines originating from aborted babies, we physically benefit from the “fruits” of one of the greatest evils of mankind. For if an innocent child had not been cruelly murdered, we would not have these concrete vaccines. We should not be so naïve as not to see that these vaccines and medicines not only offer a health benefit but also promise to promote the culture of death.”

New Zealand’s bishops prove themselves indeed naïve, terribly mundane and shallow in their thinking and lacking in a genuine spirit of prayer. They manifest once again the odious and now infamous “Spirit of Vatican II”. It’s the Novus Ordo effect. Because while the ‘Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine’ (don’t be bamboozled by the conglomerate nomenclature) certainly offers a health benefit it will fail to deliver. 

Why are the bishops so all-fired anxious for everyone – not just Catholics - to get the jab? Why have they become mouthpieces for a despicable, socialist Government?

As Liza Minelli sang in Cabaret, “Money makes the world go round”. It’s the same reason why, with holy water fonts still empty and bishops and priests imploring us to ‘sign in and stop the virus’ (as if anything can stop a virus), the collection baskets are still passed around, hand-to-potentially-infected hand, every Sunday. 

The bishops must be in for it for the money. Last year the Church took $1.5 million from the Government just in Covid-related subsidies. Caritas takes money from the Government. 'Catholic' schools take money from the Government. The bishops want Government money and they want our money. 

Their attempt to coerce the faithful into taking the jab is also an insult to our intelligence. “We are actually hacking the software of life,” said Tal Zaks, chief medical officer of Moderna, in 2017. Moderna’s approach is to use mRNA medicines to instruct a patient’s own cells to produce proteins that could prevent, treat, or cure disease. Or, it follows logically, to introduce disease.

“Biotechnology provides you with limitless ways, frankly, to injure or kill billions,” says Pfizer’s former vice president and chief scientist for allergy and respiratory, Dr Mike Yeadon. Five highly qualified and highly credible US medical doctors have now stated that these shots are NOT vaccines, but bioweapons designed to kill human beings.Why would our bishops want to have a bar of this? Even assuming that the Pfizer vaccine is what it says it is, what are its supposed health benefits?

•  Vaccination cannot “overcome the coronavirus pandemic”. The jab will not guarantee immunity.  In New Zealand there is not and never has been a “pandemic”.  The deaths of 26 very elderly people (28 if you count 2 so far, following ‘vaccination’) do not amount to a pandemic. What they amount to in reality is a plandemic.
• Our bishops complain about ‘false information’. Bishops are not employed by God Almighty as fact checkers, but as sin checkers.
•  “Lethal dangers posed by Covid-19”? What do the bishops mean? The survival rate for Covid-19 is 99.8%, about the same as a seasonal ‘flu - for which vaccination is a matter for individuals and their doctors, not a matter for bishops to meddle in. 
• Crossing the road is many times more lethal than Covid-19.
• There have been more deaths recorded in the US following vaccination for Covid-19 in 3 months than in the previous 11 years from all other vaccines. 
• The jab, our shepherds say, is “not mandatory” - but they’re doing their darnedest to make it morally mandatory. “A high percentage of the community needs to be vaccinated …Refusal of the vaccine may constitute a risk to others …The duty to pursue the common good”. Bullying the faithful with buzzwords like “solidarity” and “common good” straight out of the socialist playbook is clericalism at its worst.
• Babies were killed to make this vaccine. No matter what Jorge Bergoglio says, if we take it we are accomplices after the fact of murder.

To support their truly pathetic case for vaccination the bishops invoke the ‘Vatican Covid-19 Commission’.

“The Covid-19 pandemic … has exposed the inequalities and injustices that threaten the well-being, security and lives of all”.

Yes, and the worst of those injustices is abortion, which big pharma, the medical profession and now the Catholic Church, are exploiting for their own monetary advantage.

“(Covid-19 has) exacerbated a series of interconnected crises  - economic, ecological political and social – that disproportionately affect the poorest and most vulnerable.”

The most vulnerable are of course the unborn, but it’s the concerted worldwide reaction to Covid -19 which has exacerbated these crises: the lockdowns, especially church lockdowns, the mask-wearing and social distancing (an oxymoron, as social distancing is extremely anti-‘social’.)

 
The bishops also run for cover behind the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

“The ‘grave danger’ of spreading COVID-19 outweighs moral concerns related to abortion.”

In other words, our miserable skins are more important than any unborn babies. And And do you not think, your lordships, that in Italy the “danger of spreading COVID-19” was perhaps a teensy bit more grave than in New Zealand, where 26 people have died? Come off it, please. 

     “The Congregation concludes that ‘all (COVID-19) vaccinations recognised as clinically safe and effective can be used in good conscience.”

Oh, we get it. As long as the vaccinations work, what do murdered babies matter?

“All life has inestimable value, even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect”– Pope Francis. 

So where's his rationale in advocating vaccines made from murdered children? "That document and others from the Holy See dealing with vaccines developed from cell lines originating from murdered unborn children are not infallible decisions of the Magisterium” (Bishop Schneider). 

So Catholics are under no obligation to obey the ‘pope’ on this, or in fact on anything  else he’s said in the course of the tragical trajectory of his pontificate. Common sense and logic – and the common cures for flu – are a far better guide than Bergoglio and his bishops - who themselves state: 

     “Some of the tests used to confirm the quality of the Pfizer/BioNTech messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine involved a human cell line with a very distant historical link to abortion.”

Exactly. So if you, bishops, take the jab you are benefitting from babykilling. You quote the Pontifical Academy for Life as blaming the abortionists who murdered the babies, but you exonerate everyone else who used those murdered infants to manufacture the vaccine. Under this pontificate the Pontifical Academy for Life has become a sick joke, window dressing for the evil agenda of the globalists who are running the Vatican.

 

Who's enjoying himself? Not Bergoglio

If none of this washes with you, your lordships, would you perhaps believe Dr. Peter McCullough, who's the most cited medical doctor on COVID-19 treatments at the National Library of Medicine and editor of two medical journals? He stated recently, as reported at https://www.countdowntothekingdom.com/luz-a-plan-to-depopulate-the-earth/:

"A typical new drug at about five deaths, unexplained deaths, we get a black-box warning, see it on TV, saying it may cause death. And then at about 50 deaths it’s pulled off the market. The US has a precedent for this. In 1976 during the swine flu pandemic the US attempted to vaccinate 55 million Americans, but at that point the shot caused about 500 cases of paralysis and 25 deaths. —April 30th, 2030; interview: leohohmann.com

However, consider the numbers below, the latest stats from just Europe and America…

Or listen to Dr. Sucharit Bhakdi, M.D, who's published over 300 articles in immunology, bacteriology, virology, and parasitology, received numerous awards and the Order of Merit of Rhineland-Palatinate and is the former Emeritus Head of the Institute for Medical Microbiology and Hygiene at the Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz, Germany.

"Why aren’t the doctors and scientists speaking?… Instead, what they’re doing is they’re forcing vaccination on people, and I believe they are killing people with this vaccination… You are heading for the greatest catastrophe in your history."

Most scientists who are experts in the fields of immunology, virology, and microbiology are saying that the worst adverse events will come months from now after the third shot. In fact, said Dr. Sucharit, “If you’re going to take the third boost shot, write your will first.”^[8]

Then there's Dr. Igor Shepherd, an expert on bio-weapons and pandemic preparedness who worked in the Communist Soviet Union before becoming a Christian and emigrating to the US to work for the government. In an emotional address that cost him his job, Dr. Shepherd warned that, with what he has seen of these new experimental gene therapies, they are a threat to mankind.

"I want to look 2 – 6 years from now [for adverse reactions]… I call all these vaccinations against COVID-19 biological weapons of mass destruction… global genetic genocide. Indeed, the public is being told that these injections are “vaccines” when, in fact, they are “gene therapies”.^[9] Listen to Moderna’s CEO explain these gene injections here. Dr. Mike Yeadon, former vice president and chief scientist for allergy & respiratory at Pfizer, warns:

"I think the end game is going to be, ‘everyone receives a vaccine’… Everyone on the planet is going to find themselves persuaded, cajoled, not quite mandated, hemmed-in to take a jab. When they do that every single individual on the planet will have a name, or unique digital ID and a health status flag which will be ‘vaccinated,’ or not… And I think that’s what this is all about because once you’ve got that, we become playthings and the world can be as the controllers of that database want it… If you wanted to introduce a characteristic which could be harmful and could even be lethal, you can even tune [the 'vaccine'] to say "let’s put it in some gene that will cause liver injury over a nine-month period," or, "cause your kidneys to fail but not until you encounter this kind of organism" [that would be quite possible]. Biotechnology provides you with limitless ways, frankly, to injure or kill billions of people…. I’m very worried… that pathway will be used for mass depopulation, because I can’t think of any benign explanation…

They are taking on vast proportions. They are not only threats coming from the outside, from the forces of nature or the “Cains” who kill the “Abels”; no, they are scientifically and systematically programmed threats. —POPE ST JOHN PAUL II, Evangelium Vitae, n. 17

MEDITATION IN THE CATHEDRAL BUT NOT AS TERESA KNEW IT

What's going on in Palmerston North's Cathedral of the Holy Spirit? A terrorist attack? Are these school children dead already, or are they playing possum? Is that woman (at rear) a terrorist?

Relax, people. This is what Jorge Bergoglio would call meditation - which he wants us all to do, to nourish the “inner life” and stave off stress and emptiness, he says.

Its practitioners above are children from St Brigid's Pahiatua, on a Year of Mercy pilgrimage. Cathedral parishioners have seen kids bussed in to lie like this, all over the floor of the cathedral sanctuary, many times. 

"So what's wrong with that?" you ask. Well, first, the sanctuary is called a sanctuary because it's supposed to be a sanctuary for Our Lord Jesus Christ, really and truly present (no matter what the cathedral PP Fr Joe Grayland may say through imported mouthpieces like 'Tom Elich'). It's God's "refuge or safety from pursuit, persecution, or other danger."

But the terrible irony here is that even here in His 'sanctuary', the heart of PN Diocese, Our Lord is not safe. In fact, years ago under Bishop Peter Cullinane ("+P C" for short) Our Lord was persecuted to the point of exile from His sanctuary. 

Readers unfamiliar with the cathedral may not realise that the tabernacle seen above is a faux tabernacle; Our Lord has to make do with a modern version - in a Blessed Sacrament chapel off to the left of the photo - which is almost always empty too.

So does that make it all right for kids to lie prone on the sanctuary-which-is-not-a-sanctuary floor? No, not when the altar of sacrifice is in their midst (to the right), the altar of sacrifice upon which the Son of God is immolated, in an unbloody re-presentation of Calvary, at every Sunday Mass. (In winter, weekday Masses are celebrated in a space behind the fake 'high altar so Massgoers are all warm and comfy.) The altar of sacrifice demands reverence from the faithful.

And because meditation is prayer, to practise meditation you adopt a prayerful position. 

You can't meditate in a crowd. Meditation requires silence and solitude. “When you pray, go into your room and close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen.” (Mt 6:6). St Brigid's children are probably exemplary, but can we believe that there wasn't some giggling going on, or pushing and shoving? 

Probably the greatest-ever teacher of meditation: St Teresa of Avila, Doctor of the Church

“The practice of meditation has received a great deal of attention in recent years,” the pontiff said at this week's General Audience in the Vatican. “It is not only Christians who talk about it: the practice of meditation exists in almost all the world’s religions ... We all need to meditate, to reflect, to discover ourselves.” 

There he goes again, ,minimising the difference between "almost all the world's religions" and the One, True, Catholic and Apostolic Church. That's heresy. It's called indifferentism. And the need is surely not to discover oneself, but the One.

"I'm confused," says a reader of this blog. "We have prayer, contemplative prayer, now meditation ... 

"At Joshua men's session they brought in an expert from the Cathedral/diocesan office? and we were taught meditation. I did not accept or use it afterwards. Christian prayer is more relevant for me."

Okay. Here goes. 

Meditation is a form of prayer. Bergoglio is right in saying we all need to meditate.

Why? 

Because meditation properly and faithfully practised (a la St Teresa of Avila or St John of the Cross) leads to union with God, which is what we all should seek, and the sooner we find it the better. 

Why? Because if we find union with God on earth we'll be spared Purgatory. We won't be separated from God at our particular judgment, but will remain with Him for ever. 

Chances are that what our reader was taught by "an expert from the Cathedral/diocesan office" was Christian Meditation (CM), which was all the rage all over the world from the '60s on. But CM seems to have fizzled out somewhat, at least locally (in Central Hawke's Bay, where it's disappeared completely). The reason for that is, Christian Meditation is a dead end. That's borne out by its lack of fruits. Something which as Bergoglio says "has received a great deal of attention in recent years" would, if it were willed by God, have borne fruit in abundance. 

But where are its vocations to the priesthood? Even its evidence in Mass attendance and reception of the sacraments? Nowhere to be seen.

Meditation  - but not 'Christian Meditation' - is a form of prayer. And as Bergoglio rightly says, "meditation enters through the door of Jesus Christ". 

To meditate, we sit upright, in a quiet place where we won't be interrupted, and place ourselves in the presence of Christ, "from Whom all good comes", picturing Him in some aspect of His life or Passion which appeals to us. A good book - the good book can't be bettered and the Gospels were the chief inspiration for St Therese of Lisieux for all of her short life (which nevertheless was long enough for her to be hailed as "Doctor of the Church" also) - will almost always be needed for meditation for beginners. 

Because of a built-in lack of imagination (hard to believe!) even St Teresa had to resort to books to get going with meditation. But she'd put the book down as soon as it had achieved her objective of placing Christ before her, giving rise to spontaneous prayers and thoughts of love for Him. If our minds start to wander - as they certainly will - we return to the book. And so it goes, until we reach our time limit: ten minutes at least, and increasing the time as we get more used to meditation. Half an hour is probably the max. 

As months or even years of meditation go by, if we keep our end of the bargain Our Lord will certainly keep His. Take note: our end of the bargain doesn't involve just sitting and listening. We'll get nowhere fast with our meditation unless we are determined to practise virtue.

WHAT??? Practise virtue??? for a Novus Ordo Massgoer, that's completely OTT. Oh, of course he/she is told that what's important is "love" - but what Father means usually is love for the community. You know, 'going on the roster' or joining St Vincent's. 'Humility' just might rate a mention too, as in doing whatever ministries are going begging. But Our Lord wants us to get down to doing the hard yards in all the virtues. That's where the months and even years come in.

But St Teresa says that perseverance and "determined determination" will win us the prize, which is the infused prayer of contemplation: "infused" because it is literally poured into us by the Holy Spirit. Meditation is our doing; contemplation is God's work.

Gradually we'll realise that He is taking over. Our meditation - our work - becomes God's. The transitional stage is likened by St Teresa to hearing a shepherd's pipe, very faintly at first but growing clearer over time until in the prayer of union God absorbs all our faculties

And that's not the end of the story - the journey - which begins with meditation. Rapture and ecstasy await those who press on.
