Pope Leo XIV, as Robert Prevost is generally known, has adenocarcinoma of the lung. It's not the best of diagnoses, but the fact that he was able to undergo a lobectomy (removal of the lower lobe of his right lung) to remove his malignant tumour will be encouraging for the postconciliar church he leads from the Vatican (although now, for at least a week, from Rome’s Agostino Gemelli University Hospital).
Surgery is generally pursued only when lung cancer appears localized and potentially curable. Final pathology will help determine prognosis and whether additional treatment is needed.
Leo has asked Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle to celebrate Wednesday’s Mass at the conclusion of the meeting on the pastoral effectiveness of Amoris Laetitia. Tagle, famous for his karaoke rendition (in a lavender-tinted shirt) of John Lennon's "Imagine", an atheist anthem rejecting religion, heaven, and Christ’s Kingship, is often called the 'Asian Pope Francis'.
Cardinal Tagle, newly elected Dean of the College of Cardinals (and so in charge of choosing the next pope) is critical of the Church’s ‘severe’ language to gays. At an Easter Sunday Mass he allowed, as a staged stunt, a pretend homosexual couple acting as lovers with a woman dressed as a prostitute and a man dressed as a woman, all filmed to sell a "welcoming" Church. https://x.com/CatholicSOTC/status/2108648097387778487/video/1
Are you edified by this piece of theatre, in a Catholic cathedral on Easter Sunday? Rhetorical question.
Strange to relate, Leo's immediate predecessor Jorge Bergoglio, aka Pope Francis, had a severe respiratory infection that resulted in the removal of part of his lung, in his native Argentina in 1957, while in his early 20s. Later in life respiratory issues were a recurrent health challenge he had to endure. Is Almighty God taking the wind out of the sails of the post-Vatican II Ape of the Church?

Faithful members of the Mystical Body of Christ may take comfort as always, but especially at this time, in His Cross, as suggested in the image heading this post. In helping Christ to carry His Cross with love we are radically transformed and conformed into Him. And so we pray for Leo to St Callistus, Pope and Martyr, for his conversion, repentance and healing of both spirit and body.
"[I]n an age when
mercy is frequently invoked as though it conferred permission to disregard the
commandments of God, Callistus’s defense of absolution arose from the Church’s
sacramental authority and the sinner’s return to grace. The pardon of sin
presupposed its acknowledgment."https://bigmodernism.substack.com/p/october-14-st-callistus-i-pope-and
