It's Advent. Time for the evil one to get busy, wrecking Christmas. This year he's nauseating faithful Catholics with the sordid account of a bishop's dalliance with a girl half his age. Satan is aided and abetted by his scions in the legacy media - The Listener and The Christchurch Press - forcing this page, as defender of the Catholic faith and of truth, to speak of the unspeakable.
Three years ago Church Militant in the US was complaining how the Vatican had "dragged its feet in punishing" Palmerston North NZ's Bishop Charles Drennan for sexually abusing a young woman - only one, it's said, of several. And five years after lodging a complaint his amour, Annie Benefield, has abandoned her vocation to the religious life and her faith in the Catholic Church. And +Drennan is still a bishop - somewhere.
In a lubricious piece ineptly titled "Altar Egos", The Listener (Dec 7) devotes pages to salivating over this dreadful affair. It's reportedly sold out in Palmerston North. And, one imagines, also in Kaitaia where the complainant's other clerical lover, Filipino Fr Larry Rustia, is now parish priest. Benefield quite reasonably wants both men laicised but that's up to Antipope Francis. No one, including New Zealand's bishops, seems to know why he doesn't do it. Or what they can do about it.

Meanwhile, in Christchurch Diocese, The Press pursues the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer (FSSR), peeved that instead of leaving the diocese as they were told to do, they're expanding. Their scurrilous article claims they were investigated for abuse and unauthorised exorcisms. The fact is, no one knows why they were investigated. Or why Bishop Michael Gielen expelled them from the diocese. The Vatican isn't saying.
The Vatican seems paralysed. NZ's bishops, subjected to multiple complaints over the Drennan affair, are perhaps frozen for fear of sex abuse settlements. Whereas the ousted Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer go from strength to strength, adding more young families to their congregation and an historic Anglican chapel to their substantial property investments to seat them all.
What's the problem here? Satan and his Novus Ordo - the manifestation of Vatican II - and its inculcation of the vice of effeminacy. Every week brings new liturgical abuses in the Novus Ordo, emanating from the Vatican. As a Protestant similitude of the traditional Latin Mass, the NO in two generations has created a caricature of the Mystical Body of Christ - which has lacked a Vicar of Christ since 2022, when Pope Benedict XVI died.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio is no pope. The Church teaches that "She can have an IMMORAL or a WICKED Pope, but She cannot have a HERETIC as Pope because heretics are outside the Church. For not every sin ... can SEVER a man from the Body of the Church as does SCHISM, HERESY or APOSTASY." Significantly, those words were written by Pope Pius XII, the last pope before the disaster of Vatican II was visited on the Church. The last holy pope, period. For more erudite, wiser words on the papacy, go to Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, here: https://exsurgedomine.it/241130-papacy-eng/
The short shadow of 'Emeritus' Bishop Peter Cullinane falls across the heartbreaking story of Annie Benefield. She was head prefect at Cullinane College, Whanganui, a by-product of Vatican II which amalgamated two single-sex schools: St Augustine's and Sacred Heart. Their re-naming in honour of the uber-liberal +Cullinane (aka 'Protestant Pete') obliterated all reference to their traditional Catholic heritage.

Bishop Cullinane ran PN Diocese for 32 years; during the brief office of +Drennan and until the appointment of Bishop John Adams he maintained his episcopal influence, writing at length for the dismally modernist Cathnews and crowning his career by abolishing the traditional Latin Mass in the diocese, at the behest of Cardinal John Dew.
+Cullinane was appointed to the bishopric by one Cardinal Sebastiano Baggio, named later in an investigation by Cardinal Giovanni Benelli, as a freemason. And then his compulsory retirement at age 75 and his title 'Emeritus' had caused him and any bishop - according to Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò - to lose his awareness of being a successor of the Apostles. We're indebted to the Press story for the question +Cullinane put to Benefield:"What about forgiveness?" She says she responded, "What about justice?" +Cullinane has not responded to requests from the Press for comment.
As to the Press and its hit job on Father Michael Mary of the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer, note that the allegation that he told his 'followers' to swim naked at Lourdes has been retracted. The only other statement of any interest in their story is +Gielen's who's quoted as saying, of the disaffected FSSR supporters, “I believed what they shared with me.” Which might be charitable. And it might be naive.

And then there's Cathnews. Its news this week is - ta-dah! - that in 2025 this Marist advertisement for the post-conciliar, Novus Ordo Synodal Bergoglian sect will be published by the NZ Conference of Catholic Bishops. And it's very likely to continue as a mouthpiece for Fr Joe Grayland, ex-PN Diocese, Bishop Cullinane's handyman and one of Cathnews' stable of liberal-progressive eminences gris.
Grayland opines, in the Press, that "Gielen would have to be “quite courageous” to do more than he already has" in regard to the maligned Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer.
Standing by survivors is a chance for the church to prove it has learned from the past, and the appalling injustices exposed in the Government’s recent abuse in care inquiry.
But, he believes the Catholic bishops, not just Gielen, are already failing. In November, following the Government’s abuse in care apology, a joint letter was read to all parishioners, lamenting the actions, lack of actions, sins and crimes of people working for the church. In liturgical terms, Grayland says it means parishioners were being asked to share responsibility for the failures of church leadership.
“When you read that lament, there’s nothing that says we, the people of God, lament that we have bishops who are so f...ing useless.” ‘I believed what they shared with me’: Concern mounts as controversial Catholic sect expands | The Press
Given Cathnews' self-congratulatory tone, and its marking the hand-over by re-publishing the only opinion piece ever written by its first editor, Fr Denis O'Hagan SM, continuation of the modernist Marist M O seems guaranteed.
+O'Hagan is upset by "aggressive and even offensive comments submitted to our website". We know how he feels. This blog has come in for criticism recently for 'defaming' priests. A reference was asked for, of publishing untruths about the ordained, but it's not yet forthcoming. It's very difficult to give post-conciliar priests the reverence their anointing to Christ demands when, for example, like Fr Grayland they foul themselves with obscenity.
+O'Hagan references not only Barack Obama, who headed the most anti-Catholic administration in US history, but the sexual criminal Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, credibly accused of profanation of the Blessed Sacrament during a Satanic ritual with minors carried out in 1957 by +Bernardin as a young priest. He concludes by saying, "A rule of thumb could be, “If you can’t speak the truth with love, then it is better to remain silent.”
The Bergoglians would much prefer that faithful Catholics remain silent, but in what +Viganò calls the post-conciliar Vatican castle of deceit and lies, just to speak the truth at all is an act of love.
The Sermon of St John the Baptist (Rembrandt) |
"Behold, our Lord shall come with power, to enlighten the eyes of His servants, alleluia"
-Antiphon, Second Sunday of Advent
At the age of 19 this woman was mature enough to know that what she was doing was sinful. Not only did she embark on a liaison with +Drennan but also she got involved with another priest, plus she was engaged during part of that period - so at least three men that we know of and she is from her description co-habiting with another at the moment. She benefited from the liaisons with gifts and most likely travel through lay positions she managed to get herself appointed to. Sh has had two payouts from the Church may have got a payout from the Listener as well. Some of what she details in the Listener article would have made any decent Catholic woman run for the hills. I think Drennan was wrong but equally priests can fall pray to the presbytery butterflies who find them a conquest. Wanted to be a nun, my foot! One wonders what her aim might be in wanting to have +Drennan and the priest liaicised after such a long time - perhaps she thinks that once free +Drennan will be fair game once more.
ReplyDeleteHow utterly humiliating, this latest expose by the Listener. How utterly humiliating for the parishioners of Palmerston North diocese, for all the faithful Catholics in NZ, and utterly humiliating for Jesus Christ himself. God will not be mocked, he will have the last word.
ReplyDeleteThere is a clear message forming, if you want to kick the Catholic Church, the mainstream media will do a perfect hatchet job for you. And the scene is being set for astronomical abuse compensation claims against the Church, which may well bankrupt it. Those who want more money will take their case to the media first (or threaten to), the Church will be at their mercy. This is not to say many claimants do not have substantive claims against the Church, if the abuse is proven to be real the compensation should be commensurate.
How did Drennan even get to be a bishop, there needs to be an inquiry into how the ranks of the clergy were so defiled? It was well known that Drennan as a school teacher was an embarrassing flirt with the girls in his classes. How did he get into seminary, how did he become a priest, why was he lavishly trained in Rome and accelerated up the ranks to become a bishop?
When Bishop Drennan was first exposed, many in the church came out and said priests should be married anyway, as if to absolve Drennan of his actions. Joy Cowley was very vocal, and was given endless space in the mainstream and catholic media. Let these people speak now.
