"I am
a former detective with 33 years experience, specialising in child exploitation
and sexual offences."
This turned up in my emails a couple of days ago, forwarded by an Aussie friend who like me is convinced that Cardinal George Pell of Sydney has been victimized for his public defence of the Catholic faith in regard to homosexuality. He's been overshadowed recently by the outrageous treatment of Israel Folau. We must continue to pray for both of them, that justice will prevail in this life as it surely will in the next.
The former detective, one Patrick Martin, continues:
"I am also a Catholic that has maintained my faith despite
the horrible and atrocious acts committed by our clergy to the most innocent. I
do not condone it and in fact despise it. However I am deeply troubled by
Cardinal Pell's conviction which is subject to appeal as we speak before the Supreme
Court.
Why, you may ask?
First and foremost the evidence against Cardinal Pell
was flawed and not corroborated by independent evidence to support the
allegations.
I have previously attempted to prosecute alleged sex offenders
with more evidence only to have the matters put aside. I feel for those victims
and how they feel when they see a public figure taken to court on far less
evidence. Having said that I do not believe Cardinal Pell is guilty of his
alleged crimes.
I will stand corrected in time if it happens, but I met this
man when I was a detective at Child Exploitation and he was appointed Archbishop of Melbourne. As a serving police officer and Catholic I could not
have being more inspired by his commitment to rid our faith of criminals and perverts
that had inflicted untold trauma on innocent young persons.
Of course because
of my faith, even though I was involved in convicting a brother who had taught
me of horrendous crimes against my fellow students, no one would listen. I won't
labour on it, but I have seen horrendous acts of violence and abuse inflicted
on innocents by all types of individuals, and many of them were never made
accountable for their crimes.
This was a witch hunt orchestrated by CCP Ashton* and the left wing loonies in our state to flag-wave their achievements on
bringing down a fine man, but missing the real issues and not prosecuting those
responsible for the real crimes and leaving many victims wondering why they
never had their day in court."
