DOOMED: FREE SPEECH IN A GODLESS DEMOCRACY

In a fine - and careful - speech at Victoria University on Thursday, Karl du Fresne very persuasively promoted the right to free speech, which he clearly sees is under attack in this country.

New Zealanders, he said, now live "in a climate of authoritarianism that chokes off the vibrant debate that sustains democracy." Too true.  But democracy in a pagan society like ours is unsustainable anyway. We were asking for Ardern, and we got her.

"What's at stake is nothing less than the survival of liberal democracy which depends on the contest of ideas and free and open discussion of issues," says du Fresne (yes, he's my bro). So here's an idea that's truly  incontestable: "States as well as individuals must submit themselves to the rule of Christ the King" - Pope Pius XI, Quas Primas, 1925. He was talking about all mankind and affirming a fundamental truth of the Catholic faith. 

Had the world - especially the Catholic Church - taken Pius XI at his word instead of ignoring him (pretty much contradicting him at Vatican II), du Fresne would not have reason now to lament our sorry plight.

"We've seen a virulent transgender lobby that appeared to spring out of nowhere," he says. That lobby of "virulent" viragos is now led in the Pacific region by  "Ambassador for Gender Equality (Pacific)/Tuia Tāngata" Louisa Wall who cut her parliamentary teeth on legal infanticide with the heinous Abortion Law Act, then progressed to suppressing alternative solutions for desperate pregnant women. That pressure sprang not out of nowhere, but out of the vacuum created in Western culture by the absence - abolition, even - of God.  As Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn famously said back in 1983, "Man has forgotten God". 

Ergo, God has been replaced by idols like feminism, transgenderism, climate change, Covid and Ardern (interestingly, du Fresne avoided  any mention of the latter two).

A common factor of certain groups entrenched in NZ's universities and libraries, he said, is the belief that people have a right not to be offended. One might add that it's a belief entrenched also in the modernist Catholic Church in New Zealand, where a blogger can now be told to make an "application" to play the church organ or do the church flowers and then be denied it because apparently Father finds the blog - which maintains inter alia that Jorge Bergoglio was illicitly elected and Benedict XVI is still the pope - "offensive". 

The blindness du Fresne deplores is shared by the enemies of free speech who wheeled out the Safe Areas Bill. Would-be baby-killers (led in this instance by Louisa Wall) can appear quite demonically furious (see for example US Republican senator Elizabeth Warren, below) about the likelihood of overturning Roe v Wade, but at the same time deny pro-baby advocates the right to stand quietly with pro-life placards outside abortion mills.

It's the same blindness that afflicts Kiwis in regard to the cult of Covid, its gods and goddess Hipkins, Bloomfield and Ardern, and the deaths and injuries sustained by the devastating Pfizer jab (https://juliadufresne.blogspot.com/2022/05/silent-no-more-on-biggest-scandal-in-nz.html) - which are concealed by the media.

Jesus Christ had plenty to say about such blindness, for instance: And looking round about on them with anger, being grieved for the blindness of their hearts, he saith to the man: Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth: and his hand was restored unto him. And the Pharisees going out, immediately made a consultation with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him (Mk 3:5,6). 

Before healing that man on the Sabbath He recognised the Pharisees' blindness, and it was because He'd showed them up that the powerful sect began to plot His death. It's a bit like the Royal Society in New Zealand going after two university profs who dared to write to the Listener questioning whether, du Fresne says,"matauranga Maori, or traditional Maori knowledge, should be given the same status as science. That triggered what was possibly the most shameful demonstration yet of intolerance toward ideologically unfashionable ideas."

A theme of du Fresne's speech, albeit somewhat subterranean, is the steady, sinister creep of socialism in education (he cites universities and libraries but it's evident even in pre-school, where in an anti-family manoeuvre straight out of the commie playbook little boys are likely encouraged to dress like little girls) and consequently obvious also in the media. Today's journos,he says, are  "subject to highly politicised teaching" with the result that they think their primary function is not to report the news but to challenge the institutions of power. (Vide the excited female on TvOne 'News" a couple of nights ago who "reported" that Louisa Wall had gone "out of Parliament in a blaze of glory". Truly. Pravda couldn't have done better.)

Du Fresne worries, with good reason, that worse than misreporting, the mainstream media who've prostituted themselves (he didn't say that, exactly) by accepting $55m in subsidies, in effect to report what the Government pays them to report (he didn't say that either) are also not reporting what the Government doesn't want them to report. He's not that explicit. He simply remarks that "(P)eople are bound to wonder what else the media are suppressing."

Well, seeing he hints broadly of their existence, let's mention two of the biggest elephants in the room: the facts of the Pfizer data referenced above, and the facts of the war in Ukraine, lucidly cited by Catholic U S attorney, pro-life activist and journalist Christopher Ferrara.

Lunatics in the U.S. Congress and among the babbling bobbleheads of the perpetually lying media are clamoring for a U S-enforced no-fly zone over Ukraine, meaning a hot war with Russia over a nation of no strategic importance whatsoever to (the U S)— an event that would almost certainly trigger World War III.

Zelenskyy is just another U.S.-sponsored autocrat. In May of 2021 he had his most prominent political opponent, the pro-Russian head of the Opposition for Life party, Viktor Medvedchuk, placed under house arrest on charges of “treason,” where he remains to this day.

Elsewhere in his piece Ferrara describes Zelenskyy as "a sicko" ... "who was known for performing diabolically obscene "comedy" skits of such unspeakable depravity I cannont even describe them, much less link to them."

To return to New Zealand's least woke, least popular concept - to quote du Fresne, its most "ideologically unfashionable idea" - which is God. Let's refine it a little, as the Kingship of Christ. According to the highly esteemed Michael Davies RIP,  writing from London in the Remnant newspaper (https://www.remnantnewspaper.com/Archives/archive-christ_the_king.html)::

Pius XI's encyclical dealt with what the Pope described correctly as "the chief cause of the difficulties under which mankind was laboring." He explained that the manifold evils in the world are due to the fact that the majority of men have thrust Jesus Christ and His holy law out of their lives; that Our Lord and His holy law have no place either in private life or in politics; and, as long as individuals and states refuse to submit to the rule of our Saviour, there will be no hope of lasting peace among nations.

 

Behold the difficulties now, post-feminism, caused by the vast majority thrusting "Jesus Christ and His holy law out of their lives". A terminally warped society is stressed to the point of fracture by women armed (perhaps mainly for men's convenience) with the pill, with contraception and abortion and seduced by the notion of rising through a glass ceiling, or simply forced to make ends meet, tricked into working like dogs for a "career" - deserting their homes, with their surviving small children delivered to strangers for "day care", and rewarding men by usurping their traditional role as breadwinners. 

Women do that with comparative ease because they were designed to carry out society's most valuable task: producing the next generation. They've abandoned their birthright for a mess of pottage.

Being the empathetic creatures women are inclined to be, because that's what they need to be to care for children, they appeal more to voters (who are more often female than male) and being more capable, they continue to make headway, especially when like Jacinda Ardern and Helen Clark they're harnessed by socialist ideology. 

Socialism is the danger prophesied by the Mother of God in Portugal in 1917. "Our Lady of Fatima" warned that if people did not repent and turn to God in penance and prayer, "Russia will spread her errors throughout the world". One of the three little seers of Fatima, Lucia dos Santos, has since confirmed that the Blessed Virgin Mary meant every single country in the world would eventually be overtaken by Communism. And among the so-called democracies of the West, New Zealand is leading the way. 

"Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing" (John Stuart Mill). Bad men and women socialists whose evil ends depend on muzzling the media should be called out. Loudly.

Du Fresne did this nation a service by his comprehensive and insightful speech, which by its worldliness (in the non-pejorative sense of the word) will win many more minds than appeals on a higher plane which by rights should be made by men of the cloth but in this country especially are not. To return to that layman who knew how to win minds and souls for God and His Church. Michael Davies:

Men must look for the peace of Christ in the Kingdom of Christ—Pax Christi in Regno Christi.The teaching of this encyclical was ignored and passed over, if not actually contradicted, by the Second Vatican Council. It is an incontrovertible fact that this Council conspicuously and, one must conclude, deliberately, failed to reaffirm the teaching of Quas primas in which Pope Pius XI reaffirmed the unbroken teaching of his predecessors that states as well as individuals must submit themselves to the rule of Christ the King.

In affirming this fundamental truth of our faith, Pope Pius was not referring simply to Catholic nations, or even to Christian nations, but to the whole of mankind. He stated this truth unequivocally by quoting a passage from the encyclical Annum sacrum of Pope Leo XIII:

The empire of Christ the King includes not only Catholic nations, not only baptized persons who, though of right belonging to the Church, have been led astray by error, or have been cut off from her by schism, but also all those who are outside the Christian faith: so that truly the whole of mankind is subject to the power of Jesus Christ.

All men, both as individuals and as nations, are subject to the rule of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King, and this for two reasons. Firstly, because, as God, He is our Creator. Psalm 32 summarizes the correct Creator-creature relationship in the following inspired terms:

Let all the earth fear the Lord: and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of Him. For He spoke and they were made: He commanded and they were created.
