CATHOLIC BISHOPS SUPPORT UNJUST MAORI WARDS

The more special treatment New Zealand accords to Maori, the worse are their outcomes and the more shrill the demands of a certain class of Maori for even more preference, on the grounds of race. Maori wards are a case in point - infantilising, divisive, exclusive, expensive, socialist and above all, unjust.

So why are New Zealand's Catholic Bishops espousing something so contrary to the Gospel of Christ and the doctrine of His Church? A public meeting in Palmerston North Sunday night held under the Bishops' auspices was stage-managed by highly sophisticated Maori activists. Grievances were aired, emotion ran high in a strategy calculated to turn around PN's previous massive majority opposition to Maori wards - a strategy which seems to have somehow won over almost all the city councillors already.

New Zealand's liberal, modernist Bishops' are doubtless sincere. They believe promoting Maori separatism is an act of Christian charity. But Catholic doctrine, as articulated by Pope St Pius X, tells us that "the primary duty of charity does not lie in the toleration of false ideas, nor in the theoretical or practical indifference towards the errors and vices into which we see our brethren plunged, but in the zeal for their intellectual and moral improvement as well as for their material wellbeing." (On the Sillonists, 1910).

NZ's Catholic Bishops subscribe to the leftist organisation Common Grace 'Aotearoa'

From Eliot Ikilei, for Hobson's Choice:

We will not let the violent activists win. Our entire billboard campaign was shut down - not by debate, not by democracy, but by intimidation against our suppliers. Last week, we had our first Māori Wards billboard up for only a short time before the activist machine kicked into gear.

Despite pulling a particular billboard down immediately upon hearing the pictured individual was upset, Te Pāti Māori and their minions swamped LUMO, the company hosting our billboards, with predatory abuse. Unbelievably they even posted the personal phone numbers of LUMO staff online, inviting their supporters to “make contact.”

Threats, harassment, and fear was injected into these Kiwis to silence our message of equality. It didn’t stop there. The minions then began hunting for LUMO’s other clients, publicly posted the addresses of the company's directors, and threatened violence and damage to property, making it impossible for LUMO to continue running the campaign.

Faced with this onslaught, and very real risk to their staff's safety, they pulled out entirely. That’s not debate. That’s not free speech. That’s oppressor behaviour. This is the strategy Te Pāti Māori and their activists employ. They spread fear into businesses, trying to scare them from dealing with anyone who dares oppose them.

They cannot make the case as to why we should keep Māori Wards, so they use fear and violence to stop anyone from even discussing why they may not be needed anymore. We won’t let them win. No one, not political parties, not activists, not media commentators, gets to decide how you vote.

That’s your decision, in the privacy of the ballot box or post box. We are calling for New Zealanders to use their vote to take a stand even if they can’t voice their true feelings. We can send a message to the Government and to those who want to tear us apart: New Zealanders do not want to be divided on race.

self-explanatory

The silent majority needs to show up and vote. We can’t rely on the media to tell our story. We can’t rely on the billboard companies to withstand the threats. That’s why we need you, our supporters, to take the campaign into your own hands, into your communities, and onto your voting papers.

Right now, we’re putting the pieces in place for the next phase of this campaign. It can’t be shut down by a handful of threats or social media pile-ons. It’s going to take time, planning and resources, but when it’s ready, it will give every New Zealander the means to push back. Make a donation today to help us get there.

We know we can’t rely on the media to carry our message, and we’ve seen what happens when billboard companies fold under pressure. That’s why we’re asking you to help keep this campaign moving forward and our message out there. If you want to send a clear message to the bullies that they won’t silence the “No” vote, the most effective thing you can do right now is help us build this next stage.

Every conversation is a vote of confidence in democracy itself. The bullies cannot shut down thousands of New Zealanders who decide to stand tall. We are regrouping, redesigning, and we will keep this campaign going. But make no mistake, they will throw everything at us to shut it down. We’ll be in touch soon with more updates from the campaign frontlines. He iwi tahi tātou / We are one people.

    1. Dave Butler well, not everybody, though uou make the point well. Some rely on the list seats and others need the Māori seats, but even without those Māori are very well represented by very capable individuals in parliament.

  5. According to a polynesian academic, 61 % of " maori" have only arrived in NZ after ww2. So no, " maori" don't make up 17 %, they make up 8%.

  6. So we are probably the least colour-conscious community anywhere. Then why all the pro-Maori nonsense?

And that likely doesn’t include the likes of David Seymour who’s also part “Maori”.
And 90% of those 17% “Maori” are more than 3/4 whitey. So go figure.

  10. Māori wards are not “special treatment.” They’re about correcting an imbalance that’s existed since colonisation. Māori voices were excluded from local government for generations, and these wards are a step towards equity, not privilege.
Calling Māori demands “shrill” is just tone-policing. It ignores the substance of what’s being said — that Māori deserve fair representation in decisions that affect their whenua, their whānau, and their future.
As for bringing the Catholic Church into it: the heart of the Gospel is justice, dignity, and solidarity with the marginalised. Supporting Māori representation is not “separatism,” it’s aligning with that very mission.
If you think fairness, justice, and Māori having an actual say is “unjust,” maybe ask yourself — who exactly benefits from the status quo staying the way it is?

    1. Eli Brown name anything that you don't have access to that everyone else does. I don't think you realise just how your rhetoric is turning people against your movement but the proof will be when maori wards are voted out. 😉

    3. Eli Brown, it was not I but the Catholic Bishops who brought the Catholic Church into it. The reality is that the heart of the Gospel is "Repent and be converted". Consequently, the Bishops' mission is not so much 'justice, dignity, and solidarity with the marginalised' (an invention of the Vatican II revolutionaries) as the saving of souls. They divert their attention to Maori wards at the peril of their own souls and those of their flock.

    4. Eli Brown and Maori already have more than 'their say'. That is unjust.

    5. Megan Graham The issue isn’t about “access” in theory, it’s about representation in practice. Māori have been under-represented in local government for generations — that’s not opinion, that’s fact.
Māori wards don’t take anything away from anyone else, they just make sure tangata whenua have a fair voice at the table where decisions are made about their whenua and their whānau.
If you think equity is the same as “special treatment,” maybe ask yourself why the current system hasn’t delivered fair outcomes despite Māori having the same so-called “access.”

    1. Lindsay Goodwin Māori wards are not a “scam.” They don’t take anything away from anyone — they exist to fix under-representation in local government that’s been there since colonisation.
Racism is pretending that fairness and equity are some kind of special privilege
