Launching my blog yesterday, I said I'd post the letters I write to the Dominion Post which the editor deems unprintable. Here's my response to yesterday's editorial commenting on the resignation of Benedict XVI:
You say Benedict refused to relax the Catholic Church’s ban on homosexual acts
and was opposed to contraception in the face of ‘overwhelming evidence that it
slows the spread of Aids’. Apart from the fact that the Catholic Church has
done more than anybody to fight Aids, and adopting its teaching would not just
slow but halt its spread, isn’t there overwhelming evidence that Aids is caused
by homosexual acts?
The fact that I have cherished friendships with gays doesn't affect my sense of logic.
