WATCH, PRAY AND FAST FOR POPE LEO

To comment please open your gmail account or use my email address, FB Messenger or X. Protestant rants are not posted on this page, except to elucidate points of Catholic doctrine.

May 2023-Cardinal Robert Prevost Honorary Doctorate from the Universidad Católica Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo (USAT).

"Watch and pray" (Mk 13:33) is the Catholic response to turmoil generated by the election of Pope Leo XIV (and thanks ever so for the myriad corrections to an earlier typo in those digits).

"Papa Prevost" is a child of Vatican II; he was chosen by the Antipope Francis and so, suffering post-Bergoglian PTSD and expecting the worst, many faithful are buoyed up with relief and conflicted by doubts, all at once.

It's less than edifying to see Catholics online shoot the messengers who report papal facts. To watch, as Christ told us, we must examine the evidence, some of it being (for example) Cardinal Robert Prevost's espousal of the radical ideology of Chicago's depraved Cardinal Bernardin. https://www.yorechildren.com/blog/2025/5/20/the-chicago-way  On the other hand, Leo XIV is staunchly pro-life, anti same-sex relationships, same-sex child adoptions and transgenderism, and female ordination.

As we "pray" we may hope that by the Petrine graces Pope Leo will adopt a different view of Bernardin's "seamless garment" and in charity assume that he never bought into his homosexual clericalism. Prayer of the heart will inspire a positive response to the bewilderingly mixed messages delivered by +Leo's fervour in faith, traditional dress and manner and statements, old and new, which contradict Catholic doctrine.

Prayer teaches discernment between judging facts (which is essential) and judging the man. Prayer tells us to nail our concerns and doubts to the cross of Christ; to assume that any putative aberrations spring from a desire for the unity for which Christ prayed; and to avoid papolotry and hyperpapalism. Holy Mother Church was founded by Christ not to propound the personality or pettifogging details of any pope, but to teach His Gospel of love. And justice.

True ecumenism is living and preaching the Magisterium

Pope Leo XIV met with faith leaders at the Vatican on Monday, emphasizing his commitment to continue Pope Francis’ legacy on synodality in relation to ecumenical dialogue with other churches and religions.

Inviting representatives of other Christian churches, ecclessial communities, and other religions who attended his Sunday inauguration Mass to the Apostolic Palace for a private audience, the Holy Father stated his desire to continue the Church’s “ecumenical journey and interreligious dialogue” following the legacy of his predecessors St. John XXIII and Pope Francis.

“Synodality and ecumenism are closely linked,” he said. “I wish to assure you of my intention to continue Pope Francis’ commitment to promoting the synodal character of the Catholic Church and to developing new and concrete forms for an ever more intense synodality in the ecumenical field.”

“Today is the time for dialogue and for building bridges,” he added.

“Therefore I am happy and grateful for the presence of the representatives of other religious traditions, who share the search for God and his will, which is always and only the will of love and life for men and women and for all creatures.”

Expressing his particular fraternal affection for the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople, Orthodox Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, and Assyrian Patriarch Mar Awa III in the meeting, Leo XIV highlighted the need for Christian unity in light of the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea to be celebrated on May 20.

“That council represents a fundamental stage in the development of the Creed shared by all the Churches and ecclesial communities,” the Holy Father said. “While we are on the path towards the reestablishment of full communion among all Christians, we recognize that this unity can only be unity in faith.”

“As bishop of Rome, I consider one of my primary duties to seek the reestablishment of full and visible communion among all those who profess the same faith in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,” he added.

During the audience, Pope Leo reiterated the importance of a dialogue and fraternity — founded upon the shared belief in one God — with Jews and Muslims in order to achieve peace.

“Even in these difficult times, marked by conflicts and misunderstandings, it is necessary to continue with enthusiasm this very precious dialogue of ours,” he said.

“This approach, based on mutual respect and freedom of conscience, represents a solid basis for building bridges between our communities,” he added.

Toward the end of the audience, the pontiff reiterated his calls for peace and the need for leaders of all faith traditions to be united, “through the testimony of our brotherhood,” for the good of humanity.

"IN ILLO UNO UNUM - In the One, we are one." Pray for inclusion of the TLM

“In a world wounded by violence and conflict, each of the communities represented here brings its own contribution of wisdom, compassion, and commitment to the good of humanity and the protection of our common home,” Pope Leo said.

“I am convinced that, if we are in agreement and free from ideological and political conditioning, we can be effective in saying ‘no’ to war and ‘yes’ to peace, ‘no’ to the arms race and ‘yes’ to disarmament, ‘no’ to an economy that impoverishes peoples and the Earth and ‘yes’ to integral development,” the Holy Father concluded.Pope Leo XIV meets with faith leaders at the Vatican, calls for synodality and dialogue  | Catholic News Agency

O Sorrowful, Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Why do you criticise every Pope

    1. Virginia Nyambura a pope is not infallible or beyond criticism. To think so is the error of papalotry. When the faithful are informed of a pope's thinking they're alerted to the ways it might affect the Church for good or ill; their prayer for the pope is better focused - for his benefit and that of the Church..

    2. Ron Kuhlman so we hope, as the post implies. But it was the conclave that chose the man and we hope and pray the cardinal-electors allowed Christ to guide them.

    Watch,pray and fast indeed!
Once you recognize Antipope Francis, one is logically led to the conclusion that we have 106 anti cardinals appointed and the papal election itself then becomes an anti election….think about it.
Pray for the conversion and the purge of the perversion.

  9. A nasty post. The kind of nonsense that gives traditional Catholics a bad name.

  10. The fascination with the incredibly dubious Cardinal Bernardin extends to our own bishops conference (NZCBC), see their 2023 document.

    https://www.catholic.org.nz/news/media-releases/tekahu/

It states: Dedication. This document is dedicated to the memory of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin (1928–1996), Archbishop of Chicago (1982–1996), whose active promotion of the consistent ethic of life planted the seeds for this Statement.

Whether it's Cardinal Bernardin, or Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe, the more dubious they are the more our bishops seem to love to quote them.
