A REFERENDUM WILL SAY THE MAORI PARTY'S OVER

New Zealand has had a good laugh at Te Pati Maori's expense. At the giant tikis, Deb's spray-on tan, the colonialist get-ups. But their hakas, rudeness and ridiculous rhetoric have convinced the electorate to get serious and get rid of them and all race-based representation.

Hundreds of thousands of Kiwis muzzled in the workplace by the policies and practices protecting the racist 'treaty principles' need a referendum, to give voice to their repugnance at the apartheid lurking in this land. The Maori seats are unwanted, unnecessary and anachronistic. As indeed is Te Tiriti, stage-managed by radical separatists into producing the manifesto for a socialist ethnostate. The danger is that the Aussie brain drain combined with the juvenile socialist-indoctrinated vote could see Labour, Greens and TPM take an election.

A referendum would solve the problem of who's going to bell the cat. Parliament -especially Speaker Brownlee whose embarrassment at TPM antics is matched only by ours, at his limp-wristedness - surely wants an end to Maori seats. But who in the Coalition has the courage to introduce a Bill to that effect?

67% of our our current government's leadership are Maori. 31% of our cabinet are Maori. Maori are 17% of our population. Go figure. Who's over-represented (and only by the colour of their skin)?

Don Brash from Hobson's Pledge says it all:

I don't know about you, but I have had a gutsful of the disrespect and disdain Te Pāti Māori show for our Parliament and for all of us.

With their hateful rhetoric and disruptive antics they have demonstrated that Māori seats have become the home of the most extreme race activists.

Te Pāti Māori have put the final nail in the coffin of Māori seats.

Apart from the behaviour and extremism mentioned, the very best reason we have for bringing an end to Māori seats is that we simply do not need them any longer.

Just look around the debating chamber! It is easy to find accomplished Māori leaders sitting in seats that they won in their own right. Whether they won an electorate or worked their way up their party list, they did not need a special seat reserved for them because of their race.

The views of Māori in New Zealand Parliament are as diverse as any other group. James Meager, former Speaker Adrian Rurawhe, Willow-Jean Prime, and David Seymour all have Māori heritage. Winston Peters and Willie Jackson stand on opposite sides of the House as senior list MPs for their parties. It is undeniable that Māori do not need a leg up to get proportionate representation.

Māori seats were introduced to provide specific representation for Māori in Parliament; however, in modern-day New Zealand, the current system of separate representation is divisive and no longer serves the true spirit of equality for all New Zealanders.

Every New Zealander, regardless of their race or ancestry, should have equal access to political representation. As our nation continues to grow and evolve, it's important to move beyond historical systems that no longer reflect our diverse society. The 21st century calls for unity, and the Māori seats are a legacy of a different time.

Māori seats were introduced in 1867 because at that time only men who owned property in their own name were allowed to vote. Because most Māori-owned land was owned communally, almost no Māori men got a vote. In 1867, all Māori men got the vote, whether they owned property or not.

The Royal Commission on the Electoral System in 1986 specifically recommended that, if New Zealand adopted the MMP system, there would no longer be any need for separate Māori electorates. Despite that recommendation, the Bolger Government failed to scrap them and they remain nearly 40 years later.

It's time to disestablish the Waitangi Tribunal. Do you agree? Sign the petition.

New Zealand’s electoral system should be based on a single principle: that each vote counts equally, and each person is entitled to fair representation. Abolishing the Māori seats moves us closer to this goal.

Te Pāti Māori would like everyone to think that without Māori seats there would be not a single Māori in Parliament. That is clearly rubbish. Every party in Parliament currently, except Labour, has had a Māori leader at some stage. Of the 123 MPs currently sworn in, 33 (by my count) are Māori.

We need to have a serious and respectful conversation about what purpose the Māori seats are serving. As far as I can tell, Te Pāti Māori are not even attempting to engage with the Government to achieve better outcomes for Māori - Pita Sharples and Tariana Turia did things differently.

Wasting taxpayer money at $5500 per minute!

Waititi and Ngarewa-Packer focus instead on fomenting social disunity and trying to breach as many standing orders as possible.

If Arena Williams can win Manurewa, Tamatha Paul can win Wellington Central, and Tama Potaka can win Hamilton West, to name a few, why do we need a special spot for Rawiri Waititi to use to undermine our democracy?

Most New Zealanders will take a look at the disarray Te Pāti Māori have caused with their stunts and their defiance of the rules and agree that time is up for Māori seats.

  1. Well said Julia du Fresne. The Maori seats were supposed to end with MMP and Te Pati Maori should be abolished. We have been a united people for decades up until recently and that is the doing in great part of TPM and such organisations as the Waitangi Tribunal.

    1. Don Shepherd they like all MPs do not have freedom of speech, per se, in Parliament. They agreed to abide by the Rules of the House in regard to speech and they do not.

And that's why TPM used the hikoi to encourage more part Maori to switch to the Maori roll so they can get more seats they don't deserve.

    Julia spot on.

  6. Seems you "DON'T" walk what you preach Julia and enjoy breaking Gods laws in the Bible & regulations regular,
And not only do you enjoy constantly love putting others down & promote hatred, when God himself tell's "YOU" not too.
But you need to share & validate your own thoughts twice, three, four, times of your hatred views onto God's people & others on your own personal FB & ever other platforms you've made yourself a member!
So here's my thoughts: 🤔 on why you're constantly a sinner & break the rules of God & your Bible.
    : Wrath
Wrath is a strong anger and hate towards another person.
The Bible speaks about wrath in Romans 12:19, “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’”
Additional Bible verses include: Psalm 37:8, Proverbs 14:29, Proverbs 15:1, Ephesians 4:26-27, Colossians 3:8 and James 1:19-20.
Patience cures wrath by one first understanding the needs and desires of others before acting or speaking.
    : Envy
Envy is the intense desire to have an item that someone else possesses.
The Bible says the following in Proverbs 14:30, “A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.”
Other biblical texts which mention envy include: Job 5:2, Psalm 37:1, Proverbs 24:19-20, Ecclesiastes 4:4, Galatians 5:26 and James 3:14-16.
Kindness cures envy by placing the desire to help others above the need to supersede them.
    : Pride
Pride is an excessive view of one's self without regard for others.
The Bible says the following in Jeremiah 9:23-24, “...Let not the mighty man boast of his might...but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me...”
Pride is also mentioned in the following verses: Proverbs 8:13, Proverbs 16:18, Romans 12:16, 1 Corinthians 13:4, Galatians 6:3 and James 4:6-7.
Humility cures pride by removing one's ego and boastfulness, therefore allowing the attitude of service.
So while you smile & judge/judging others for there wrong doings, your nothing but a hypocrite for doing the same exact same thing,
but your actually worse, because as a Catholic or Christian you should know better! And Jesus Christ himself & God said that too.

    2. Kaj Christensen this comment isn't for you Kaj, it's for Julia du Fresne because apparently she was a faithful church going Catholic,
but yet here she is denouncing God, Jesus & the Bible lore's by condemning, humiliating others & mocking them & trying to make other people hate these people because they are not just Māori, but human beings with feelings,
And she very well knows, that God & Jesus Christ is very strict & even more condemning on people whom believes & has faith in them,
but yet still chooses to break their Lore's & belittle others, that is God & Jesus job,
      NOT her's,
      Aye Julia??? 🫵😈
They all see you Julia, your using his forgiveness of SINS, like a shopping mall, were you think you can shop, just because you think you're a customer who can walk in just because he's all forgiving,
Your a very Naughty Catholic Julia, VERY naughty Catholic 🫵👿

    3. Peter Hammond aren’t you supposed to forgive as a good catholic yourself, instead of pointing fingers?
Classic catholic behaviour. It’s not us, it’s you!!

  8. Are there rules around clothing worn within parliament? The cowboy hat surely is not a Maori item and if you wear a tiki keep it to a reasonable size rather than a great chunk of rock that threatens to injure the wearers neck!!

    1. John Frehner In 2021, New Zealand Parliament updated its workplace dress code after a complaint by Māori MP Rawiri Waititi. Waititi was wearing a traditional pendant around his neck called a hei tiki when he was ejected from chamber. At a committee meeting the following evening, members voted to remove the requirement for a tie to form ‘appropriate business attire’ for men in the chamber.

  11. Separate representation exists for as long as we want them. They try and unilaterally disestablish it, will set the grounds for separate government. Then watch the Maori vote.
