For the edification of any who missed it, I reproduce here, per kind favour of the curmudgeonly Leo Leitch, the appalling cartoon which appeared in the Dominion Post on Tuesday October 8.
And for your enjoyment, read below the letter Leo dispatched to the hapless editor.
Sir / Madam,
I cannot but add to all the other similar communications you’ve received my own message of disgust and contempt for the editorial staff of the Dominion Post.
Your vile cartoon, demonstrating your hatred for Christianity and the Catholic Church in particular, presents no humour, only vicious malice.
In keeping with your stance for the last couple of decades, you find yourself on the wrong side of decency, decorum and, most importantly, credibility. Any newspaper editor who thinks that the evidence and testimony presented against Cardinal Pell goes anywhere near indicating his guilt does not have the intelligence, let alone integrity, to be an editor.
When Cardinal Pell is duly exonerated by the Australian High Court, what cartoon will Dominion Post display ?
I have a friend very gifted in cartooning. I’ll get him to do one illuminating your shameful humiliation.

ReplyDeleteThe Dominion’s Opinion raises questions about its editor’s integrity and having us wondering if he always prints things without being in possession of all the evidence. At this stage in the issue he could be said to have adopted the usual media tack of printing fake news just to sell newspapers.
