Dear Christopher Luxon, on Anzac Day we say by all means stand 'shoulder to shoulder' with Ukraine. In Ukraine. 'On the ground' - and on your own. Not with our Kiwi soldiers in an unwinnable war. And if you come back home in a body bag, so be it. We'll offer prayers for your soul. With pleasure.

You're 'standing with' a crook, and with George Soros and WEF co-globalist Jacinda Ardern (and surely you know what we think of her). Volodomyr Zelenskyy supports sodomy and abortion and so do they all. You too. Rational Kiwis have no wish to 'stand with' these creeps. 

You're looking dangerously like a traitor, Mr Luxon. Your first duty as New Zealand's Prime Minister is to protect this country and its citizens, who are mostly pretty hard-up. You've handed Ukraine $78 million of our dollars. Was that with no strings attached, like the 12.7 billion quid your treacherous friend Keir Starmer has 'gifted' to Ukraine - which could account for Zelenskyy's acquisition of King Charles' and Diana's former residence, Highgrove, for 20 million?

Writing for OnePeterFive, Edmund J Mazza PhD sheds new light for those with a knee-jerk MSM-induced reaction to the vexed question of Ukraine (in the first of a two part article):

As we teeter closer to the brink of World War III than at any time in almost forty years, only the truth will set us free—no matter how painful that truth.

Let us start by cutting through the media misinformation/mass formation psychosis over the Russian invasion depicting Zelensky/Ukraine as the hero and Putin/Russia as the villain.

 

The truth is, the immediate origin of this conflict can be traced back exactly one year ago, on March 19, 2021, when Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council had approved a strategy aimed at retaking Crimea and “reintegrating the strategically important peninsula.” President Zelensky went so far as to announce:

A new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the efficiency of the international response to the occupation of Crimea, respond to growing security challenges, step up international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupying power and to achieve the de-occupation of Crimea and its return to Ukraine.

Including the port city of Sevastopol—the home of the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet!

Needless to say, this was taken by Russia to be tantamount to a declaration of war.

 

Now doubtless, it will be objected that in 2014 Russia itself invaded and “stole” the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine, so Zelensky’s regime had every right to threaten to take it back.

 

But the fact of the matter is that an official referendum was held on March 16, 2014, by the people of Crimea and in the local government of Sevastopol. The referendum asked the voters whether “they wanted to join Russia as a federal subject, or if they wanted to restore the 1992 Crimean constitution and Crimea’s status as a part of Ukraine.”

 

The official result was a 97 percent vote for integration into the Russian Federation with an 83 percent voter turnout; in Sevastopol too, there was a 97 percent vote for reunion with Russia and an 89 percent voter turnout.[2]

Western diplomats claimed that the presence of the Russian army made it an “unfree” election, but Gallup, who conducted a survey of Ukraine and Crimea reported in April 2014 that, “among the population of Crimea, 93.6% of ethnic Russians and 68.4% of ethnic Ukrainians believed the referendum result accurately represents the will of the Crimean people. Only 1.7% of ethnic Russians and 14.5% of ethnic Ukrainians living in Crimea thought that the referendum results didn’t accurately reflect the views of the Crimean people.”

In terms of the more remote origins of the war, His Excellency, Archbishop Vigano has aptly summarized the West’s decades-long provocation of the Russian bear:

Since the fall of the Berlin Wall the United States has extended its sphere of political and military influence to almost all the satellite states of the former Soviet Union, even recently, annexing into NATO Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary (1999); Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania (2004); Albania and Croatia (2009); Montenegro (2017); and North Macedonia (2020). The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is preparing to expand to Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia.

Practically speaking, the Russian Federation is under military threat– from weapons and missile bases– just a few kilometers from its borders, while it has no military base in similar proximity to the United States. To be considering the possible expansion of NATO into Ukraine, without thinking that it will arouse Russia’s legitimate protests, is nothing short of puzzling, especially given the fact that in 1991 NATO pledged to the Kremlin not to expand further.[4]

 

 

On April 3, 2008, at a conference in Bucharest, Romania, NATO officially declared its support for Ukraine and Georgia entering their alliance against Russia:

NATO welcomes Ukraine’s and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations for membership in NATO. We agreed today that these countries will become members of NATO. Both nations have made valuable contributions to Alliance operations. We welcome the democratic reforms in Ukraine and Georgia and look forward to free and fair parliamentary elections in Georgia in May.

MAP [membership action plan] is the next step for Ukraine and Georgia on their direct way to membership. Today we make clear that we support these countries’ applications for MAP. Therefore we will now begin a period of intensive engagement with both at a high political level to address the questions still outstanding pertaining to their MAP applications.

Russia immediately protested, but her diplomatic warnings were repeatedly ignored.

 

Ultimately, the US orchestrated a coup in February 2014, ousting the pro-Russian President Yanukovych in favor of the pro-NATO Turchynov and (in May 2014) Poroshenko. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church supported this regime change, since it kept historically anti-Catholic Moscow at arms length.[5] In May 2019, the current president, Zelensky came to power.

 

Zelensky is a protégé of Klaus Schwab’s World Economic Forum. He officially promotes sodomy, abortion, and all manner of godless and unnatural Western values. Putin’s administration, on the other hand, has outspokenly opposed the growth and spread of such inhuman soul-killing ideologies. Whether or not his statements come from Russian Orthodox piety or political expediency, opinion is divided. In any case, he has earned the ire of George Soros:

Yes, the regime in Kiev does stand with Soros and The Great Reset. Nevertheless most Ukrainian Catholics would rather have the secularizing Zelensky with a measure of religious freedom, than risk the harsh rule of Moscow… again.

 

As of this writing, Putin has offered Zelensky a deal. He could “end war immediately” if Ukraine agrees to 1) cease all military action, 2) institute constitutional neutrality: promising to refrain from entering NATO, 3) recognize Crimea as Russian, and 4) recognize the Russian speaking regions of Luhansk and Donetsk as independent.

 

If Zelensky and his Western puppet masters have an ounce of sanity in their minds, they will accept. This would also secure the freedom of Ukrainian Catholics from Moscow by means of Ukrainian sovereignty. In God’s Providence, Russia is ultimately destined to play a positive role, despite the historic animus of the Russian Orthodox against the Kievan Catholics. As Archbishop Vigano says:

The United States of America and the European nations should not marginalize Russia, but rather form an alliance with her, not only for the restoration of trade for the prosperity of all, but in view of the reconstruction of a Christian Civilization, which alone can save the world from the globalist[s]…

And yet, the ultimate arbiter of world peace (and the fate of Moscow and Kiev) lies with the Vicar of Christ ...

Isn't it amazing? Even with the decrepit Antipope Francis still squatting on the chair of Peter and literally at death's door, this Easter France welcomed a record-breaking 17,800 converts into the Catholic Church. It's the fourth consecutive year of exponential increases. Baptisms were up 45% on 2024. 5 per cent converted from Islam.

Is it a recoil from far-left governments? Because the same phenomenon is seen in Britain (only, as you'd expect from those reserved Brits, a little less so). In the US, after four years of 'devout Catholic' Biden's adminstration, at least 11,954 were received into the Church.

Imagine what the conversions to Catholicism would have been if Francis' faux pontificate had not been “deeply resonant with the principles of Freemasonry" Grand Lodge hails Pope Francis’ work: ‘Deeply resonant with the principles of Freemasonry’ - LifeSite.. 

Or if the Traditional Latin Mass (usus antiquior) were still the normal expression of the Faith of our Fathers, instead of being cruelly suppressed, with faithful Catholics persecuted by the Vatican and its minions everywhere, including in New Zealand, where Mass is said in garages as disused Novus Ordo churches are sold off as cafes.

American freelance journalist Heather Tomlinson tells her story of conversion to the Church: 

It’s no exaggeration to say that my life was transfigured when I became a Christian in the late 00s. I turned from the trajectory of liberal hedonism with its inevitably miserable end, to the difficult but beautiful way towards Christ. Like an oil tanker, it took a long time for this U-turn to complete, and it still veers off course at times.

 

I was greatly helped by the love of scripture I absorbed from the Protestant evangelical churches I attended as a young adult and for the next ten years, which encouraged me to question and ultimately reject the secular dogmas that had been instilled in me in my increasingly atheistic English home. The Bible truly became a living Word, helping me to grow and to love.

 

When I was newly baptised in an Anglican Church, I attended a Catholic Mass and shed tears because I couldn’t receive the Eucharist. I must have sensed I was missing something important, yet it would be a decade before I even considered Mass an option for Sunday worship.

 

This was first prompted by an ethereal experience of monks chanting compline one Christmas Day evening in Ampleforth Abbey, as well as the inspiring example of sacrifice, poverty and humility of priests and religious.

 

During repeated attendance at Mass on Sundays, I heard beautiful quotes from great saints that further attracted me to Catholicism and its presentation of Christ. I was particularly struck by St Francis de Sales and his gentle but strict teaching on love and humility. Later I discovered he was the patron saint of journalists and that he battled my least favourite theological school, Calvinism, giving me a special affection for the great French bishop.

 

The more I read of old saints like my beloved Yorkshire’s St Aelred of Rievaulx and St Hilda of Whitby, the more depth, goodness and spiritual wisdom I perceived in the history and tradition of the Church through the centuries. It’s a treasure that I have barely even sampled so far, even after several years of giving it the full attention of my serious addiction to books.

 

The writings of these holy Catholic men and women inspire me to open up my heart to God and to grow in love. Through their words, it seems holiness is possible - though my own efforts were increasingly revealed to be hopeless. I was steered to look above for the necessary grace to love and serve God rather than serving myself.

 

Praying the Holy Rosary daily led me to meditate on Jesus’s life and the scriptures in a transformative way, especially the sorrowful mysteries. I feel as if I have received more practical teaching and discipleship through contemplating Gethsemane, the scourging, and the Cross in the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, than I have from a thousand Bible study groups.

 

Then the much-lauded aesthetics: the gentle hum of Gregorian chant, striking art that brings biblical scenes to life, sweet smelling incense, beautiful roses and lilies, the deference and respect of the worship for our Creator. With the Rosary, these all aid meditation on God and his goodness.

 

All this might have been enough to persuade me to be received into the Catholic Church in 2021, and it seems it's a popular path in England at the moment. But an important reason I’ve swum the Tiber is that I perceive it to have been a more reliable guardian of truth as it has been passed on from Jesus and his apostles down through the ages.

 

 

Of course it has been buffeted and battered by many assaults from the materialistic, individualistic philosophies that rage around us, just as Protestantism has been. But the Catholic Church seems to have weathered the storm more successfully, even though there are many threatening clouds on the horizon.

 

There has been ample practical evidence of this in recent years. For example, in the culture I grew up in, the Catholic prohibition of contraception was widely perceived as incredibly stupid and backward, and nearly all Protestant denominations dropped this teaching at some point in the 20^th century.

 

Only now, looking back, can we see its wisdom, with dangerously declining birth rates and rampant promiscuity threatening us, to name just two of the negative consequences of the pill, the fuel for the fire of the intensely damaging sexual revolution.

 

The Catholic Church is also one of the few Christian churches to have held firmly to the principle of indissoluble marriage. It’s a tough rule to keep, and has made my personal life much more difficult. But given the societal chaos caused by family breakdown, I trust Catholic adherence to Jesus’s teaching on divorce is right. Any personal sacrifice I have to make will support the greater good of more intact families and the blessings that they bring to the next generation.

 

The pressing reason I have decided to talk about becoming Catholic however, is the horror that is the UK’s “Assisted Dying” legislation, better described as an attempt to introduce euthanasia, that the Labour government is in danger of imposing onto the UK. My experience with vulnerable people informs me that this proposal has grave consequences. 

 

What a clear sign of our moral deterioration, that instead of a person’s final months being spent loved, heard and nurtured as nature takes its course, the state funds lethal drugs for a cold, controlled finale like a dog.

 

Many good evangelicals have been labouring hard to oppose this deeply disturbing proposal, and some in the Church of England have expressed concerns. But the witness from Protestant churches overall has been mixed or muted, not helped by the likes of former Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey actively supporting assisted suicide.

 

There has been a similar mixture of apathy, anxiety and confusion regarding abortion for many years within Protestantism. I greatly appreciated the Catholic bishops’ quick, clear and uncompromising opposition to this tragic Bill when it was announced, and the repeated pastoral letters urging parishioners to write to MPs, and encouragement to prayer.

 

Increasingly, I suspect that this kind of moral clarity is only possible in a church that submits to the authority of both a church hierarchy and the teaching of the church through the ages.

 

There are also important questions that Protestants must face about the witness of the early church fathers and their understanding of the sacraments, among other vital matters related to salvation. 

Having heard almost every possible kind of interpretation of the scriptures from good, committed Protestants who are earnestly committed to obeying the Bible, on all kinds of essential moral and spiritual questions, it seems clear that scripture alone is not enough to guide the reader into truth, unless you are willing to adopt a postmodern “there are many truths” attitude, which I am not.

 

Scripture is essential, but there must be other guardrails to prevent us veering into heresy and confusion, which tradition and authority can provide.

 

Of course this short explanation merely scratches the surface of complicated theological, cultural and political phenomena. I am grateful for spiritual benefits and a closer walk with Christ, and admire the Catholic Church’s ability to withstand the vicious assaults of the 20^th Century on truth, love and goodness. Thousands of adults are entering the Catholic Church this Easter Vigil across the United Kingdom.

This Easter, dioceses across the United Kingdom will see a surge in adult baptisms, especially among young men, with the Westminster diocese alone receiving 500 adults into the Catholic Church, according to a report by the Catholic Herald.

 

“We notice that large numbers who join us are young men,” Archbishop Mark O’Toole reported. His diocese of Cardiff-Menevia has seen a 100-percent increase in conversions compared to 2024.

 

Similarly, in the Diocese of Southwark, 450 converts will be received into the Catholic Church the Easter Vigil, marking a decade-high number.

 

Father Daniel of the York Oratory revealed that he believes that part of the reason for the conversions is a desire for order and sense in a world of chaos.

 

“There is a sense of moral chaos and lack of meaning in today’s society. If people can find something that makes sense, provides meaning, and also gives a community, which the Catholic Church does, they are going to be attracted to this, and I think this is particularly true for young men,” he explained.

 

Additionally, Archbishop John Wilson of the Archdiocese of Southwark shared the joy of those entering the Catholic Church.

 

“Whenever I meet someone joining the Church, I am filled with so much joy,” he said. “While each story is unique, at the heart of every story is the same yearning, the same feeling of restlessness. These feelings can only be answered and fulfilled by Christ.”

 

This phenomenon is also taking place in France, which has record-high numbers of adult baptisms to take place in less than a week, according to data released by the French Bishops’ Conference.

 

This Easter, France’s Catholic Church will welcome over 10,384 adult catechumens, which is a 45 percent increase from last year. Additionally, 42 percent of adult catechumens are from the 18-25 age group.

 

The increasing number of catechumens comes after a recent report found that the number of Generation Z churchgoers in the U.K. has jumped from four percent in 2018 to 16 percent today, with young Catholics outnumbering Anglicans by a two-to-one margin.

 

Generation Z, often called Gen Z, are those born from 1997 to 2012. This generation is known for many things, including social media addictions and leading the working from home movement.

 

However, Gen Z is also known for its remarkable return to religion, especially Christianity and Catholicism.

 

The surge in Catholicism among Gen Z can also be attributed to the rise of Catholic, or at least Christian, social media influencers and celebrities.

 

Many celebrities, including Russell Brand and Rob Schneider, have revealed their journeys to Christianity.

 

Similarly, prominent podcasters Candace Owens and Tammy Peterson recently embraced the fullness of Christianity by entering the Catholic Church.
